Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Uganda is part of the LWF World Service and we are currently supporting Congolese and South-Sudanese refugees living in settlements in the districts of Kamwenge, Adjumani, Moyo, Kyangwali and Lamwo respectively.
Job Summary: The Project Assistant – GBV is responsible for the day-to-day general implementation of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases within the settlement.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Report cases of gender-based violence and protection against persons of concern while upholding confidentiality and dignity.
- Support the local leaders and GBV officers to ensure that all GBV incidences are identified, documented, provided with psychosocial counselling, appropriate referrals made and all the necessary support provided.
- Ensure all incidences are correctly recorded and reported in accordance with LWF and protection policies and procedures.
- Conduct training for the refugee leaders, persons of concern and local authorities on SGBV protection of human and child rights.
- Develop project monitoring plans to ensure that project activities are implemented as per the expectations.
- Ensure that weekly reports, and monthly reports submitted to the responsible officer within the specified time.
- Provide Basic psychosocial support for survivors of gender-based violence and human right violation.
- In collaboration with the project officer, provide guidance to community structures to report cases of GBV/SGBV.
- Ensure regular involvement of women and children in the decision-making process to ensure their needs are addressed
- Continuously help in the identification, monitoring and documentation of GBV and protection issues in the settlement ensuring that relevant stakeholders and duty bearers are informed.
- Be responsible for community-based structures (community activist), mentoring and coaching to enhance the capacity of community activist and other community structures.
- Conduct regular field visits to all beneficiaries site where project activities are under taken, check on progress and verify existing caseloads needs, document challenges on deliveries and utilizations of protection inputs in line with project objectives.

- Undertake other related duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant should preferably hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Gender and Women Studies, Social work and Social Administration, Social Sciences, Development studies, or any related fields.
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience in providing GBV prevention and response interventions, community-based psychosocial support in the refugee context
- Valid driving Permit, Competent computer proficiency (MS Packages, ProGres V4, and Internet).
- Should be a committed team player with high standards of integrity and honesty
- Demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills, management and leadership skill, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as negotiation skills.
- Must be willing to ride a motorcycle and possess a valid riding permit
- Team player, flexible, network-builder
- Ability o handle pressure,
- The applicant must enjoy working in the field and previous work in nutrition or health-related intervention is an added advantage.
- Demonstrate skills in research and report writing, creative thinking and problem-solving, and the ability to interpret present data,
- Extensive knowledge, and understanding of community and social issues.
- Adhere to the principle of confidentiality, non-judgemental, and have a positive attitude towards work.
