The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is a Ugandan not-for-profit organization whose mission is to strengthen health systems in Africa, with strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through research and capacity development. IDI has six operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research, Laboratory services (including the CAP-certified IDI Core Lab & Translational Lab), Global Health Security and Health System Strengthening.

 

Job Summary:  The Senior Project Officer is the point of contact for technical aspects of the program implementation, and review of the deployment of the PROVE protocol and associated interventions as per the IDI implementation strategy. The Senior Technical Officer will support the technical aspects of the program including writing technical reports and monitoring KPIs against the set objective

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the GHS department leadership and committees, provide operational level planning, design, and implementation of the regional program.
  • Support in house coordination of the different program sections including scientific team, logistics, and granting/sub-granting and program management for periodic reporting.
  • Track progress of program implementation in the selected countries
  • Ensure that there is linkage of implementation science to public health action informing CoVID-19 vaccination
  • Support literature reviews, the writing of scientific reports, manuscripts, and policy briefs for dissemination; work with stakeholders and with the IDI communications function to develop an external communication plan
  • Liaise with IDI finance and procurement functions to ensure timely requisition and processing of program needs
  • Works with the Project manager to develop monitoring and evaluation framework.
  • Any other roles as assigned by the supervisor from time to time.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Masters in Implementation Science, Medicine, Laboratory Sciences, Public Health, or any other related field is required
  • A degree in any of the above disciplines is essential or other health related course.
  • Diploma or advanced certificate in project planning management in the health sector
  • At least five years of experience in research especially in the field of implementation science or research administration
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc) and advance knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems.
  • Proven ability to coordinate complex programs with diverse range of partners.

  • Literature review and Data analysis skills
  • Proven excellence in written communication including report writing
  • Self-motivated and able to competently handle multiple concurrent tasks and deliverables
  • Competent in the use of standard office software
  • Ability to work with teams in a multinational environment but also to work independently.
  • Flexibility to work long hours, which may occasionally extend beyond normal working hours to complete critical tasks.
