About US:

SPOUTS is a social venture that locally manufactures and distributes effective ceramic water filters to improve the access to clean drinking water sustainably in Uganda. In addition, we locally manufacture free hand-washing stations to improve access to hygiene.  Our mission is to provide clean drinking water and hygiene services to all East Africans. We currently sell multiple water filter products under the brand name “Purifaaya”.  The Purifaaya provides financial, social, and health benefits for its customers in addition to environmental benefits.

 

Since SPOUTS sold its first Purifaaya in 2015, it has distributed 60,000+ filters to East Africa providing over 350,000 end-users with long-term access to clean drinking water.  SPOUTS is a rapidly-growing organization with over 100 employees and the next step is to scale its operations across all of East Africa to provide all with clean drinking water.

 

Job Summary:  The Operations Manager will formulate operational strategies that enhance synergy, support performance improvement plans and manage procurement for all SPOUTS needs, Inventory Control and Management, Logistics, and secure efficiency and effectiveness while ensuring all processes remain legally enforceable and compliant.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement a controlled environment that enforces risk management in all business operations including the safeguard for all SPOUTS assets.
  • Provide operations inputs and recommendations to strategic plans, prepare and complete action plans, resolve problems, complete department audits, identify and perform trend analysis, and coordinate operations budget process on all variables that enhance SPOUTS strategy as per set objectives.
  • Create an inventory system that allows monitoring of stock levels and determining economic order quantities at all business locations.
  • Ensure all operations are carried on in an appropriate and cost-effective manner.
  • Review for relevancy on all processes and policies at all times while ensuring they are all applicable and enforceable to the control environment.
  • Mentor, train, assign, schedule, coach, counsel, and take disciplinary actions on employees as may be appropriate.
  • Review performance for all the team and ensure that all staff are equipped with relevant tools and skills to perform their tasks.
  • Forecast requirements, prepare department budgets, schedule expenditures, analyse variances and initiate corrective actions on all odds.
  • Develop operations systems by determining product handling and storage requirements, enforce and evaluate policies and procedures for receiving products, equipment utilisation, inventory management, and shipping methods.
  • Provide all operations performance reports timely and as may be required.
  • Any other duty as shall be assigned by management.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to create and maintain an efficient system of operations to support the business needs, should be comfortable multitasking and working cross-functionally with different business units and must have previous experience in related fields.
  • Three to four years of extensive experience in managing inventory, logistics and supply chain, particularly in a social enterprise setting.
  • A qualification relevant to the work of the Operations Manager will be highly regarded.
  • Language requirements: High level of competence in spoken and written English language skills. Competence in spoken Luganda language is an advantage but not essential.
