Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT) is a Public Tertiary Institution established by Statutory Instrument No. 79 of October 2005. The Institute is operated and managed by Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) the regulator of the Communications Sector in Uganda.
Job Summary: The Manager Public Relations will provide leadership in public and media relations, develop and implement strategies, plans and programs relating to public and media communication, and stakeholder management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead in the development and implementation of Communication strategies and plans in collaboration with the different Institute’s Directorates.
- Work with the team to collectively raise the profile of Institute’s research and academic expertise by proactively sourcing, drafting and pitching features to national media/specialist sector press.
- Implement UICT’s Communications policy.
- Oversee the overall news and multimedia relations and serve as public information contact for UICT.
- Provide direct advice, consultation, and assistance to senior management in the development and implementation of key messages and media relation strategies.
- Draft communications talking points and speeches for the Principal and guest speakers
- Manage all UICT’s Corporate events including but not limited to graduation ceremonies.
- Promoting the Institute at events e.g., exhibitions, conferences alongside the use of promotional materials such as brochures, fliers, calendars, plaques and other mementos.
- Monitor, and oversee the production of print materials and publications and also lead in the automation of public relations function.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships and act as a link between the Institute and the media houses to deliver high quality visibility.
- Write articles, newsletters to be published.
- Monitor the adherence to the content production guidelines for the Institutes domain.
- Maintain a consistent, corporate, unique online identity with use of UICT’s colors, and logo placements.
- Prepare relevant reports and submit to the Supervisor for review.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree with honors in Mass Communication, Journalism, Media Relations
- Post-Graduate qualification in Journalism, Media studies, Film studies, Videography, Photography, Public Relations, Customer Care, Publishing, Information Science, Librarianship or Archival science is relevant and
- A master’s Degree in related field may be added advantage.
- At least five (5) years’ experience in the area of Communication with a reputable organization and at least three (3) years at supervisory level.
- People management and engagement skills
- Excellent Project management knowledge and skills
- Wide-ranging high-level contacts in the media and the public sector are crucial
- Excellent communications skills, with flair for writing and public speaking
- Strong relationships with both local and national business and industry media outlets
- Excellent understanding of the media landscape and trends
