About US:
Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services for people with disability in Uganda (CoRSU) was established in 2006 as a private non-profit, nongovernmental organization and is supported by CBM (Christian Blind Mission). CoRSU provides Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Rehabilitation, mainly for children as well as adults with disability.
Job Summary: Take a lead in the support, maintenance and performance of all CoRSU IT systems; install and configure computer systems, network devices, diagnose hardware and software faults and solve technical and application problems as well as ensuring reliable connectivity at all times on office premises. Work closely with the database Administrator to maintain database applications running properly; assisting him/her to manage and tailor the databases to meet CoRSU needs and requirements; plan and direct the development and implementation of database changes when required and ensure optimum performance from the database sub-systems and related applications.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review and develop IT policies and procedures for IT operations, system maintenance, security, archiving and disaster recovery.
- Ensure a secure system by assisting with regular anti-virus and MS Windows security updates, data backups.
- Managing of the Back Office Automation Systems by ensuring proper usage of the system and implement best practices on usage of these systems to avoid any setbacks.
- End user support; Assist application users in identifying and describing problems or opportunities that need to be addressed.
- Server Management and configuration; Install and configure computer hardware operating systems and applications.
- Monitor and maintain computer systems and networks. Keep computer systems running smoothly and ensure users get the maximum benefit from them.
- Troubleshoot system and network problems, diagnosing and solving hardware or software faults i.e. talk to staff or clients through a series of actions, either face-to-face or over the phone, to help set up systems or resolve issues.
- Follow diagrams and written instructions to repair faults or set up a system/provide user support.
- Support the roll-out of new applications by providing technical support, testing and evaluating new technology including procedural documentation and relevant IT reports.
- Set up new users’ accounts and profiles and deal with password issues.
- Respond within agreed time limits to call-outs.
- Multitask; Prioritise and manage many open cases at one time; work continuously on a task until completion (or referral to third parties, if appropriate)
- Rapidly establish a good working relationship with users and other professionals, such as IT equipment suppliers, software developers and other technical persons as per the service level agreements in place.
- Conduct electrical safety checks on computer and related IT equipment.
- Maintain and troubleshoot all network and computer related issues including hardware replacement of parts as required
- Consult with supervisors to determine business, functional and technical requirements for specified applications and budgeting process.
- To review, analyse, and create detailed documentation of CoRSU business systems and user needs including work flow, program functions and steps required to develop or modify computer programs.
- Participate in the review and development of IT users’ manuals and corresponding training programs for new and existing IT system users.
- Assist supervisors to develop tactical and strategic product, services and/or programs to support the CoRSU business goals.
- Report for duty on time and perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the immediate supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant must hold a university degree in computer science, information, systems information technology or engineering from a reputable institution.
- At least three years working experience in the area of database administration and data centre management CCNA certified.
- Knowledge of SQL and database management Systems is a must
- Extensive knowledge of: Microsoft windows server 2003, 2008 ,2012, Microsoft office 2003,2007,2013, wired and wireless networking skills, desktop and server hardware, antivirus and remote support products. Expose to VMware ESX and v Center 4.x and above and WatchGuard firewalls.
- Cisco router programing & internet working, Bay networks – TCP/IP, SNMP, FDDI, Internet information server.
- Extensive knowledge in Microsoft exchange (2016 and above) and PowerShell scripting
- Extensive knowledge in virtualization and a virtualization environment including integration of secure payment systems
- Extensive knowledge in Active Directory and in IT service management
- Knowledge of shell scripting and other scripting languages like Perl, Python, PHP etc.
- OCP, MCDBA, and Oracle PL/SQL and UNIX certification preferably HP-UX and LINUX is desirable
- Knowledge of electronics hardware repairs and troubleshooting
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve network problems, install and operate network monitoring tools and maintain network documentation.
- Flexibility in the support in file, mail, web, database and print servers.
- Analytical & problem solving skills regarding monitoring system performance levels and to quickly assessing system problems.
- Good analytical, technical and communication skills
- Excellent presentation and organizational skills able to communicate effectively
- Self-motivated job holder occasionally required to work for long hours and able to work independently at any location in an IT support capacity.
- Ability to think logically
- Excellent listening and questioning skills, combined with the ability to interact confidently with users to establish what the problem is and explain the solution.
- Good people management skills and ability to manage third party contractors.
