Finnish Refugee Council (FRC) is an INGO promoting adult education and community development among refugees since 1997 as an operational partner to UNHCR and OPM.
Job Summary: The key purpose of the job is to develop, promote and implement activities related to saving and loan groups at community level. The VSLA Officer is part of “Enhanced Livelihood Opportunity through Climate-Smart Agriculture” -project but provides technical support to other projects.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify technical capacity and challenges of beneficiaries’ skills and knowledge on VSLA and income generation activities, and plan & implement appropriate trainings.
- Facilitate establishment of village and saving loan groups among beneficiaries.
- Train beneficiaries on VSLA methodology – including group governance and leadership, and rapid appraisal of income generating activities.
- Provide guidance and advice on running the community VSLA groups.
- Track progress of VSLA groups and keep records.
- Facilitate data collection, compile reports.
- Link VSLA groups with other skill training such as literacy, financial literacy, life skills.
- Link VSLA members to economic development and income generating activities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship, Business management, Rural Development or similar.
- At least three years’ professional work experience in VSLA, IGA or business promotion.
- Willingness to travel and live in rural project locations.
- Experience working with non-governmental organisations and local communities.
- Ability to use standard computing packages.
- Knowledge of languages spoken by refugees is an added advantage.
- Riding skill is a MUST with valid riding licence.
