THETA – Uganda has been at the forefront of fighting HIV and AIDS in Uganda working at both the National, District and Community level. THETA’s Mission is to improve the health of the most vulnerable members of society by promoting health and preventing disease through capacity building, advocacy and research in partnership with traditional and biomedical health care systems and communities.

 

Job Summary:  The Project Accountant will mainly prepare accurate and timely budget proposals and monitor expenditure trends and burn rates according to donor requirements, THETA financial management standards and accounting procedure

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and provide Project financial information with narrative reports for decision making in a timely manner in accordance with the THETA Financial guidelines and Donor requirements
  • Generate monthly, quarterly, and year-end actual budget (variance) analysis and other financial analyses as may be require by Management in accordance with Donor requirements and THETA guidelines
  • Prepare monthly financial reports and communicate expenditure trends/ Burn rates in line with contractual agreements with donors.
  • Prepare monthly Payroll for bank transfers in accordance with the THETA Human Resource Manual
  • Prepare and submit Beyonic/Mobile Money and bank reconciliations to the Finance and Administration Manager for review and approval in line with the Financial Management standards and Accounting procedures
  • Prepare Accounts payable transactions (Salary and statutory deductions) in a complete, accurate and timely manner and ensure that the deadlines are adhered to in line with the relevant Laws and Regulations.
  • Receive and verify Grant beneficiaries’ financial requests, timely remit the funds, and authenticate accountability submissions in line with the Donor requirements and THETA Financial Procedures.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant for the Accountant job must hold a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or Finance with Level II of CPA or ACCA.
  • Four years of work experience in the Accounting /Finance with at least 2 years providing support to a busy NGO of professional staff, where a considerable number of analytical skills are called for.
  • Knowledge of operational issues with Grant funding and its financial accountability issues is a must
  • Financial Management, Planning, Budgeting and Coordination, Coaching and Mentoring, Accountability; Ethics and Integrity; and Team work.
  • Ability to resolve problem situations in a tactful manner
  • Effective communicator, both orally and in writing; ability to deal with persons of diverse cultures
  • Highly conversant with QuickBooks.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong experience in financial reporting and financial analysis
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proven ability to work under tight deadlines (and deliver financial reports) on time
