Job Summary: GRG is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to join a grassroots non-governmental organization that specializes in trauma recovery, sustainable livelihoods, reconciliation, and reintegration of former child soldiers, refugees from South Sudan, and war-affected communities in northern Uganda.
We are looking for a highly motivated and qualified program officer with at least three years of comprehensive experience working with remote communities in northern Uganda. Candidates should have experience working with both groups and individuals with extensive histories of conflict, physical and emotional trauma, abduction, and SGBV. The candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team of field and office staff to participate and supervise GRG’s psychosocial projects, and peacebuilding.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Providing the technical support and leadership required for the successful implementation of all GRG’s trauma recovery and peacebuilding activities.
- Participate in the development and facilitation of professional, effective, and appropriate psychosocial, and peacebuilding programming.
- Provide professional and confidential services to refugees, SBGV and trauma survivors.
- Conduct, supervise and provide training for 1:1 trauma-focused psychological interventions to adolescents and adults who are experiencing mental health difficulties including PTSD, depression, and anxiety.
- Assist with preparing all relevant monthly reports regarding GRG’s field activities.
- Lead awareness-raising and/or sensitisation sessions on topics such as SGBV, stigmatisation, substance abuse, trauma recovery, domestic violence, and land conflict in collaboration with other staff members.
- Conduct and supervise the design and facilitation of stress-management sessions, peace mediation sessions and conflict resolution training.
- Assist with the design and implementation of training for community peer counsellors and peace ambassadors.
- Participate in the monitoring and evaluation of projects.
- Perform any other professional duties assigned by the direct supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidates will have obtained a bachelor’s degree in Trauma Counselling or Clinical Psychology
- Additional qualification or experiences in peacebuilding is an added advantage
- Three years of experience working in trauma recovery with post-conflict communities and refugees in northern Uganda.
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the unique challenges associated with working with people who have experience extensive histories of trauma and continue to experience complex and difficult living conditions.
- Experience in supervising and leading the training of other staff, peer counsellors and/or in peace mediation and conflict resolution is advantageous.
- All candidates should have excellent report writing and communication skills.
