ECO supports communities and the Country and Global sustainable development agendas through the core programs of Natural Resources Governance, Climate Change and Resilience and Ecosystems Restoration and Management.
About the Project:
The 3-year project seeks to improve agricultural productivity, consumption of micronutrient-rich foods, utilization of community-based nutrition and health services and reduce household vulnerability to human trafficking among smallholder agro-pastrol households at risk of human trafficking in Nabilatuk and Napak Districts, Karamoja Region. This work is attained through strengthening of community structures including VSLAs, Human trafficking committees and DRR committees and not at household level.
Job Summary: The Program Officer will embark on overall coordination, operational management, monitoring and reporting of the above mentioned project activities, outputs and outcomes in a high quality manner. The Program Officer will also actively engage in communication and advocacy work and participate in the implementation of the fundraising strategy for the organization.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide expertise and technical assistance in agroecology, climate smart agriculture, resilient livelihoods, strengthening community structures including VSLAs, DRR and child protection committees.
- Undertake overall coordination, operational management and monitoring of project activities, outputs and outcomes in a high quality manner.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual progress report, project implementation reporting as per donor guidelines and organize quarterly progress, mid-year and annual reviews;
- Liaise with partners, target project beneficiaries and all relevant stakeholders and actors for effective coordination and implementation of all project activities.
- Participate in the implementation of the fundraising strategy of the organization.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, natural resources management, environmental sciences or related subjects. A Master’s degree and other equivalent qualifications will be added advantage.
- At least seven years of experience in community level climate resilient and development interventions. Additional experience in strengthening community structures, climate smart agricultural programs agroecology and livelihood programs will be an added advantage.
- Extent and relevance of experience in working with MDAs, multi-stakeholder networks, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Extent and relevance of experience in resource mobilization through grant proposal writing.
- Report writing skills is very essential
- Strong computer literacy with a full knowledge of MS office word, excel, power point etc
- Experience in child protection will be an added advantage.
- Good leadership skills with ability to take personal initiative to achieve results with minimal supervision
- Strong relationship management skills and ability to work effectively in an environment of cultural diversities
- Excellent and demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
- Excellent attention to details and ability to complete tasks in a timely manner;
- Strong interpersonal skills, communication and ability to work in a team;
- Required Language: English and local languages spoken in Karamoja sub- region are an added advantage.
