Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE) is a national women’s non-governmental organization based in Kampala. Forum for Women in Democracy is a non-partisan women’s organization operating in Uganda with its head office in Kampala. FOWODE grew out of the Women’s Caucus of the 1994 –1995 Constituent Assembly (CA) that debated and passed the 1995 Constitution. The organization’s mission is to promote gender equality in all areas of decision making through capacity development, community empowerment, policy engagement and strategic partnerships.
Job Summary: Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE) seeks to recruit a Finance Assistant stationed at Head Office in Ntinda, Kampala. The incumbent will be part of the team responsible for maintaining an efficient and accurate Accounting function.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Update the Accounting system (Quick Books) by posting and reconciling financial records.
- Ensure timely Bank reconciliations.
- Ensure proper filing of all financial documents.
- Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with acceptable policies, procedures and donor requirements.
- Prepare donor reports.
- Support in the preparation of both donor and institutional audits.
- Tally financial reports with accountabilities.
- Prepare the monthly payroll and ensure filing and remittance of statutory deductions
- Assist with budget development during proposal writing.
- Maintain an organized and up-to-date Asset register.
- Timely processing of requisitions in compliance with the set guidelines in the financial manual.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Degree in Accounting and Finance.
- Two years of experience in the use of financial systems and preparation of budgets and financial reports.
- Experience working with quick books is a must.
- Experience working with non-governmental organizations is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of accounting and book keeping terminology and practices.
- Knowledge of automated accounting systems (Quick Books).
- Excellent knowledge of computer usage including Microsoft and Excel skills.
- Ability to compare data from a variety of sources for accuracy and completeness.
- Ability to understand and apply accounting guidelines, system updates and revisions and policy changes.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work well in a team.
- Ability to work under minimum supervision and meet deadlines.
