About ERA:

The Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) is a statutory body established in accordance with the Electricity Act, 1999 (Chapter 145, Laws of Uganda). The Act empowers ERA to regulate the Generation, Transmission, Sale, Export, Import and Distribution of electrical energy in Uganda.

 

Job Summary:  The Database Officer will develop, maintain, implement and customize ERA Database systems so as to provide a platform to attain operational efficiency and service continuity in line with the Authority’s objectives and mandate

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administering database management software.
  • Develop, implement and maintain databases, data collection systems in accordance to business needs and objectives of the Authority.
  • Monitor the availability and performance of database management systems and advice on database management systems performance improvement initiatives and Programs
  • Install and Patch database management Systems and monitoring tools to keep them up‐to‐
  • Maintain integrity and accountability of ERA data for reliability and consistency of data stored in the database management system
  • Implement data security processes/procedures/programs and advice on database security programs and initiatives
  • Implement and maintain database backup and recovery (DR) programs /initiatives to enhance business continuity.
  • Support adhoc data extraction requests and data analysis initiatives whenever called upon
  • Review data received from licensees for accuracy, consistency and
  • completeness, identifying errors and follow‐up in case of missing, and erroneous data.
  • Maintain data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection laws





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or Information Science/System or Software Engineering from recognized University/Institution
  • Three (3) years of relevant working experience in a reputable organization.
  • Should be below 33 Years of age.

 

Desirable Requirements

  • A professional training in IT Specialized areas such as Oracle, SQL server, Unix/ Linux solaris, R, python, Toad
  • Knowledge of MS Access/ Excel and any of the econometric software such as Eviews, STATA, RATS, PCGIVE.
  • Certification in any of the following SQL server or Oracle.
