Founded in 2011, 32° East is a centre for the creation and exploration of contemporary Ugandan art.  Based in the capital, Kampala, we provide the artistic community with studio space, workshops, residencies and artist-led outreach projects. Through supporting education, innovation and professionalism we aim to nurture, develop and raise the profile of Ugandan visual art to a national and international level. 32° East | Ugandan Arts Trust is a registered company limited by guarantee in Uganda. 32° East is a member of Arts Collaboratory, the Triangle Network and the Prince Claus Fund Network Partners.

 

Job Summary:  The Communications and Partnerships Coordinator shares our work with the world, building partnerships along the way. Working closely with the Director, the Coordinator will be responsible for engaging and growing our offline and online communities. Through our communication channels and in-person networking, the Coordinator will ensure we are a trusted source of information for artists and partners, and help generate resources to support our work . The ideal candidate is highly personable and an exceptional communicator

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Communication

  • Build on and maintain our year-round comprehensive communication strategy (on social media and newsletters) to connect with our community and highlight the work of 32° East, our partners, and artists
  • Manage social media platforms through creating content, managing comments, and tracking social media analytics (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn)
  • Establish a press strategy including maintaining a mailing list of press contacts and creating a template for press releases for relevant projects, and maintain record of press relevant to 32° East and the Ugandan arts scene.
  • Serve as main point of contact for web designer, ensuring the website is updated and maintained
  • Manage graphic designs, photography and visual identity deliverables on all projects
  • Oversee all written materials for programs, press releases, grants, newsletters, website assets, and other key external facing materials

Partnerships

  • Build relationships with potential partners for public art projects and programming
  • Attend local art events where possible, and share
  • Assist with grant applications
  • Manage all grant reporting and funder recognition requirements
  • Manage partnership details, contracts, and mentions across all communications





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • At least four years of relevant work experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills including editing and proofreading
  • Experience managing web and digital content
  • Strong, proven competencies in social media management
  • Understanding of brand/design identity
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Experience in writing for different audiences
  • Track record of working with colleagues to implement house style
  • Ability to multitask, delegate and prioritise within a busy working environment
  • Confident working independently but also as part of a small team
  • Must be eligible to work in Uganda

 

Desirable

  • Experience working in a visual arts organisation
  • Interest in contemporary art
