Job Summary: The Cargo Operations Supervisor shall ensure efficient and cost-effective Cargo Operations in liaison with the GHAs, delivered in compliance with the Regulations, Handling and Service Level agreements, and Industry best-practice, and maintain liaison with Regulatory Authorities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Full responsibility for cargo handling operations.
- Maintain applicable safety and quality standards as per SLA
- Develop and maintain excellent relations with customers and authorities
- Exploit all revenue and cost-saving potentials
- To make a decision that affects safety and security of the cargo operations
- Manage and supervise activities within the scope of cargo operations
- Coordinate with the Cargo Manager to implement the cargo business plan.
- Continuously develops process improvements within export and import cargo services, in close cooperation with Cargo Manager.
- Liaises with the GHAs to encourage ongoing communication and promote desired service levels
- Leading a team of operations staff deployed in shifts at the HUB to process network cargo, courier and mail across while protecting and enhancing system-wide Cargo revenue generation objectives.
- Perform regular quality checks and proper completion of paperwork as well as provide feedback to respective stakeholders and work to address any problem areas identified
- Participate in audits, assessments and any projects and take the required follow up actions
- Ensure Cargo, Courier and Mail handling activities are undertaken in compliance with the Company’s Safety and Security policies.
- According to the company and industry standards, monitor operational performance of various special cargo products, e.g. Perishable cargo, live animals, dangerous goods, valuable, postal mail, etc.
- Recommend and conduct coaching for cargo team members and act as the designated trainer when required.
- Analyse network cargo loads and provide feedback to Cargo Manager.
- Ensure optimization of equipment, staff levels and shift patterns to ensure effective service delivery and cost reduction.
- Provide an oversight role on network Revenue collection through proper accounting for services rendered to protect & enhance revenues.
- To effectively communicate relevant aspects of service delivery internally and externally to meet customer expectations.
- To ensure conformity with all regulatory requirements, organization standards and local procedures.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Cargo Manager
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the Uganda Airlines Cargo Operations Officer job must hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
- Professional certifications will be an added advantage.
- At least five years of experience in Cargo at Senior Management level
- Strong knowledge of airline procedures, processes, regulations, and standards as applicable to cargo operations. e.g. IATA Safety Audit for Ground operations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other appropriate IT tools.
- Must possess a complete understanding of the flight/cargo operations.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and diplomacy.
- Able to work variable hours, flexible shifts, including holidays and weekends.
- Ability to perform under pressure and fixed time constraints.
- Overseeing Ground Operations and must possess and maintain a valid Driver License
- Excellent report-writing, communication, and IT skills.
