Job Summary: The Data Scientist will create and deliver data-driven measurement, analytics, insights and analysis to provide value to a portfolio of business areas in Country CHNW,BCC, CIB and Corporate Function, including next-best action, segmentation, churn, life time value, or loyalty analysis and modelling in order to enable optimal decision making. To analyse, model and predict key parameters, trends and behaviours within the Country customer base, taking into account the economic environment, seasonality, business cycles, knowledge of the bank’s customers, pricing and key business strategies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Insights and Analytics capability
- Defines and implements (relative to data) the insights and analytics approach, plan, policies and processes for Country, aligned to the Information Management and Customer Insights strategy and the target business operating model and strategy.
- Provide insights and analytics models, analysis and reporting for Country.
- Drives consistency amongst various data sources in order to ensure a single version of the truth, thus minimising confusion regarding insights and analytics.
- Creates standards and reduces reworks, through ensuring completeness of the to-be insights and analytics framework.
Governance
- Responsible for ensuring compliance to the Data Science Model build Framework.
- Identify data quality issues that affect the accuracy of insights and analytics and pass on to Data Governance and Data Quality Team for remediation.
Rule definition
- Ensures that all measurements for insights and analytics activities are well defined, communicated and applied.
- Ensures that all data rules and measurements align with business requirements and are aligned to the Country & Business Strategy.
- Finds solutions to improve insights and analytics efficiencies in order to meet the needs of the requestor, with minimal rework.
- Achieves efficiencies by ensuring adherence to the insights and analytics framework when creating models and dashboards.
Data extraction and validation
- Ensures that all necessary validations are in place and that data is reconciled through the data value chain. This is performed by ensuring that validation of data is a key step in all activities as stated within the Information Management framework.
- Consolidate data using SQL and other tools, into a table that supports the tracking of Key Risk Indicators for the bank.
Insights and Analytics models and reporting
- Automate extractions, building of models and dashboards for all insights and analytics functions.
- Provides accurate analytics and measurement to the functional areas within Country & Business Units
- All insights and analytics reporting should be aligned to the Information Management framework and business requirements. This is necessary to allow the business to operate efficiently with visible performance metrics, as well as increasing efficiencies.
- Provides functional areas within country with ad hoc insights and analytics when appropriate and necessary.
- Uses insights and analytics tools efficiently in order to optimally use the data.
- Develops analytic models to understand the key trends and behaviours including:
- Retention/churn/attrition modelling
- Customer lifetime value modelling
- Key trends in customer behaviour across channel, product, segment and industry
- Identify potential cross-sell and up-sell opportunities, including:
- Delivery of high-quality customer insights by means of propensity modelling and/or event triggers analytics; structuring them in a next-best action schema in order for the business to create marketing campaigns.
- Response-modelling for direct marketing campaigns and their success measurement.
- Develops pricing elasticity models around pricing behaviour for both transactions and balances.
- Integrates external insights into modelling capability, looking at Standard Bank relative to the market.
- On-going maintenance and updating of the segmentation model and running of updates.
- Proactively proposes key opportunities and threats to the business based on key findings.
Stakeholder and Service Level Agreement (SLA) management
- Ensures that insights and analytics adhere to the defined and agreed service level agreements (SLAs).
Self-Development
- Takes personal responsibility for coaching and mentoring opportunities.
- Identifies appropriate formal and occupational (informal) training needs and courses (internal/external) to develop oneself.
- Up-skills oneself regarding new products and procedures through attendance of workshops/presentations and reading of internal and external communications
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the Stanbic Bank Data Scientist job placement should hold a B.Com or B.Sc. degree in Statistics and/or Mathematics, Quantitative Economics, Information / Computer Science
