About US:
The Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda (CCFU) is a non-governmental organisation incorporated in 2006 to “promote the recognition of culture as vital for human development that responds to our diverse identities”. CCFU’s work is anchored on 3 programme areas: Cultural Heritage Safeguarding and Promotion; Cultural Rights Promotion; and Managing Cultural Diversity.
Job Summary: CCFU is seeking the services of a Heritage Programme Officer, whose main tasks will be to lead the implementation of at least one project, currently the heritage education programme, and support the research, advocacy and community engagement activities of the Foundation. The Heritage Programme Officer will also support the resource mobilisation activities of the organisation.
Purpose:
- To lead and provide technical /programme support to at least one of the Foundation’s heritage development programmes, initially with specific focus on Heritage Education in at pre-tertiary and tertiary educational institution levels.
- To provide support to CCFU’s research and documentation activities in relation to heritage development programmes
Context:
- Support the advancement of CCFU’s mission and vision by planning, designing, implementing, researching and documenting, monitoring and evaluating especially of heritage education programmes.
- Coordinating and supporting Heritage Club Patrons and Community Museums Coordinators under the Heritage Education Programme
- Networking and collaborating with stakeholders on the intangible cultural heritage education at university project.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategy development: To lead the development and implementation of CCFU’s heritage education and research and documentation agenda
- Lead in the development, regular update and implementation of heritage education and research and documentation of project plans and activities
- Participate in discussions and review of legislative and policy processes related to cultural heritage education and research and documentation.
- Collaborate and network with State institutions responsible for education to ensure mainstreaming of heritage studies in school curricula
- Advise and guide the Foundation’s leadership on heritage education trends happening at global, continental, regional, national and community levels
Technical support: To provide technical support to CCFU and partners in respect to capacity building, knowledge generation, innovation, monitoring and evaluation of programmes relevant to cultural heritage and development
- Lead in the development, planning, innovation, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of the heritage education and research and documentation programmes
- Support and enhance the capacity of CCFU partners on the heritage education programmes
- Support CCFU’s consultants or partners implementing research and documentation exercises
Resource mobilization: To contribute to the mobilization of resources for programmes on the promotion and preservation of cultural heritage
- Participate in the development of concepts and proposals to advance the Foundation’s objective to promote and preserve cultural heritage, initially with specific support to heritage education and action research and knowledge generation.
- Participate in internal and external fundraising meetings, when delegated
Networking and publicity: To establish linkages and collaborate with relevant stakeholders in and outside Uganda to illustrate the relevance of cultural heritage to human development
- Participate in internal and external discussions related to CCFU’s heritage education and heritage development agenda
- Contribute to maintaining relationships between CCFU and other like-minded heritage-focused organisations especially in the field of education
- Represent the Foundation on the project steering committee for the intangible cultural heritage in tertiary institutions
- Effectively represent the Foundation at public fora, as delegated by the Executive Director
Programme and institutional support
- Develop and maintain a monitoring mechanism for the heritage education programmes
- Participate in CCFU’s programme monthly planning, budgeting and reporting meetings as well as staff meetings and retreats.
- Participate in CCFU’s fundraising efforts to raise resources for the Foundation.
- Support CCFU’s Communications function in accessing and disseminating accurate information on CCFU’s heritage education, research and documentation work
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- At least a bachelor’s degree in heritage studies is the most desirable and, in the alternative, a degree in development studies or anthropology or related fields;
- At least two years of working experience in an institution promoting cultural heritage, especially in Uganda
- Must have demonstrated passion for culture and working with culture to promote development
- Demonstrable experience in designing, conducting, and disseminating social research
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills with the ability to decipher macro and micro issues in the related fields of operation
- Good communication and writing skills
- Ability to build and work in a team
- Personal integrity and accountability
