About US:
The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is a ministry of the Society of Jesus, incorporated as an international nongovernmental organisation with a mission to accompany, serve, and advocate for the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. The organisation was founded in November 1980 and has a presence in over 50 countries. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support and guidance of an international office (IO) in Rome. The style of JRS service is human and spiritual, working in situations of greatest need, seeking the long-term well-being of refugees and displaced people while not neglecting their immediate or urgent needs. The main services provided are in the fields of Education and Livelihoods, Reconciliation, MHPSS and Advocacy.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervisions / coordination of livelihoods inhouse and external training /activities She or he will be required to be in the field monitoring beneficiaries at business sites and internship place and securing internship opportunities and linkage to employment at least 3 times a week.
- Office business is meeting with walk -in refugees / appointments and reporting
- Placement / selection of students for training inhouse and external
- Issuance of grants and pay-back follow up.
- Business training process.
- Internship/Linkage to employment.
- Monitoring individual beneficiaries’ business sites, internship and employment.
- All business coordination of a training institution.
- Apprenticeship placement.
- Provide technical feedback on monthly, quarterly narrative reports ensuring that established project objectives and targets are met.
- Prepare brief location-based reports on a monthly basis outlining locally developed social cohesion strategies and identified contextual changes within communities to ensure project approaches are adapted to evolving dynamics within communities.
- Assist in the coordination and analysis of needs and market assessments and surveys such as market assessments, social cohesion mapping and stakeholders mapping.
- Oversee participatory needs assessments and identify appropriate livelihood interventions to increase incomes for the host and refugee communities in the target locations.
- Responsible for planning and oversight of program activities and outcomes, including beneficiary registration, assessment and selection, including financial literacy, business skills trainings, evaluation of business proposal for Urban farming initiatives, new product innovations and value chain development.
- Oversee the implementation of technical approaches in micro-enterprise development, value-chain development, financial inclusion (savings groups/financial literacy), and integration of social behavior change initiatives to foster peaceful co-existence in refugee host communities.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly expenditure forecasts and work plans for program activities to ensure that project remains on track against the forecasts and budget commitment tracker.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a B.Sc degree in Business Administration, Social Sciences, Microfinance, Entrepreneurship, Economics or any other relevant fields.
- Four years of related mid-level work experience with NGOs with focus on business innovation or private sector led approaches or interventions.
- Technical Knowledge and experience of Business, Marketing and Humanitarian communities.
- A dynamic attitude is required, with proven ability to think and act creatively in challenging environments.
- History of working effectively and respectfully with government, private sector, INGO and NGO partners in complex environments
- Strong interpersonal, writing and oral presentation skills in English is a requirement; knowledge of other languages including Kiswahili, Luganda and French is an added advantage.
- Strong leadership and proven team building experience is a must.
- Willingness to spend much time in the field and work closely with program target groups.
- Proactive, results-oriented, and service-oriented with proven ability to contribute to written reports and technical proposals.
- Attention to details, accuracy and timeliness in executing assigned responsibilities.
- High level of administration and management skills with experience in managing budgets, working effectively with local stakeholders and leading a team of staff and volunteers.
- Experience analyzing data and contributing to evaluation reports.
- Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Knowledge on how to ride a motorcycle with a valid riding permit is mandatory.
