About US:

Show Abilities Uganda (SAU) is an umbrella organization of Youth with Disabilities that was established in 2003 and registered in 2019 to bring together different categories of youth with disabilities including those with mental, intellectual, sensory and physical impairments between 18-30 years of age. SAU works in partnership with existing Organizations of Persons with Disabilities to implement projects and programs in various areas of interest to youth with Disabilities. With a Vision of having “A society inclusive of Youth with Disabilities in Uganda”. SAU in partnership with Operational Days work Denmark is implementing a project known as “Empowering Youth with Disabilities as role models and increasing access to vocational skilling”. This is a three-year ongoing project running from Sept 2020 to Aug 2023 and It is upon this background that SAU is seeking to recruit a competent and self-motivated person to coordinate the project for next 12 months piloted in the four Districts of Oyam, Sironko, Kampala and Mpigi.

 

Job Summary:  The jobholder is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the project as shall be assigned by the Executive Director.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Planning and development

  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of the project activities.
  • Liaise with Government officials and vocational training institutions to ensure inclusion of youth with disabilities in Vocational training.
  • Mobilise youth with disabilities and support them to enrol in the vocational institutions.
  • Sensitise parents, care givers of Youth with disabilities and duty bearers to support their children in accessing vocational training.
  • Establish partnerships with government agencies like DIT and BTVET to enhance their understanding on the needs of youth with disabilities for effective inclusion in their programs Develop periodic work plans, budgets and concept notes for activity implementation, and submit the accountabilities and activity reports
  • Make appropriate arrangements and prepare logistics for meetings and activities both at district and National level.
  • Collect and share relevant project information and data in accordance with the project M&E framework.
  • Support in the fundraising activities of the Organization
  • Participate in preparation (content) and conducting trainings
  • Network with other organizations in the field of Youth/Youth with disability empowerment both at District and National level Document lessons learnt and success stories to facilitate learning and reflection processes.
  • Prepare and submit monthly and bi-annual progress reports for the project.
  • Support in monitoring and evaluation of project activities
  • Other tasks and responsibilities
  • Manage and support the Youth leaders
  • Participate in the organisation’s key events and represent the organisation in relevant fora.
  • Preside over community, dialogues, sensitization meetings
  • Support program wide progress and impact assessments. Provide technical guidance, coaching and mentoring junior staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure that resources under his/her care are properly deployed and utilised.
  • Mobilise youth with disabilities to participate in SAU while being gender and disability sensitive
  • Undertake all necessary actions to protect and promote the image and brand of SAU.
  • Carry out own administrative functions including timely filing and the use of Word for the production of own correspondences and reports.
  • Writing project articles for publicity purposes.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant should at least hold a Degree in social work and social administration, Adult and community Education, Development studies, Community based rehabilitation, education among others or any other related discipline in Humanities.
  • Technical Skills: Proposal writing, Project planning, implementation, M&E, administrative and coordination skills computer application skills (excel sheet, MS word and power point)
  • Experience in application of national and international instruments such as SDGs, CRPD, Persons with disabilities Act to promote inclusion of youth with disabilities in the development process.
  • Experience in advocacy and good understanding of Disability rights Experience in implementing similar projects
  • Personal qualities: Open to change, keen sense of ethics, integrity and commitment to SAU’s mandate.
  • Able to multi-task, work under pressure, ability to work with minimum supervision, team player with positive attitude towards realization of organizational goals.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with colleagues internally and stakeholders externally
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with colleagues internally and stakeholders externally Comfortable to work in a multi-cultural environment, written and effective communication skills.
