Job Summary: The WPE Prevention Officer will work under the supervision of the Senior WPE Officer to meet day to day prevention program needs for under WPE programme. She/he will facilitate awareness programs and Behavioral changes approaches such as Engaging Men Through Accountable Practices (EMAP), Adolescent Girl Shine program, Economic and Social Empowerment (EA$E) programs and Others Psychosocial Support Sessions for women and girls. The post holder will require working closely with community structures, Women Right Groups, CBOs, RLOs and national NGO partners while delivering activities. The staff will serve as Focal point for WPE Prevention Interventions in Kawempe and the role has no supervisory responsibilities but collaborates with other sectoral staff and Volunteers. The PO will increase women’s and girls’ access to information about risks, services, and risk mitigation activities. The PO will work to ensure that community mobilization activities, safety assessments, outreach visits, government and other organization meetings, and community-based activities are planned, implemented, and monitored.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and monitor GBV prevention activities, ensuring these activities are informed by target beneficiaries and correspond to their priorities and safety.
- Establish and coordinate Women men and girls’ groups comprised of members from the targeted communities to conduct women-led risk reduction activities, safety audits and assessments.
- Building the capacity of WPE Volunteers, Women groups, and other community structures on GBV Core Concepts, safety audit and service mapping tools, reporting and advocacy skills, and community mobilization.
- Work with WIPC – Local partner organization in the roll out of behavioral change initiatives e.g., EMAP, Girl shine and Girl shine caregivers’ model, PSS, and EA$E while tracking progress on implementation and engagement of targeted clients.
- Implement prevention and community-based advocacy initiatives based on identified needs and Safety Audit reports that reflect the voices of women and girls.
- Conduct training and dialogues with women and men community members, community leaders and key informants on the topics of GBV, women’s rights, gender equality in line with priorities identified by women and girls.
- Conduct outreaches to disseminate information of services available to women and girls and raise awareness with the WPE Assistant Prevention Officers, Volunteers, and the Women Committees.
- Work with families, caregivers, and communities to support in building and strengthening a more protective environment for adolescent girls and to meet their specific needs.
- Support data collection through M&E tools and systems, ensuring strict adherence to confidentiality and GBV best practice principles.
- Submit daily, weekly, and monthly comprehensive work plans and reports to the supervisor.
- Provide ongoing supervision, support, mentoring and guidance to Community Based Volunteers to ensure outreach services are of high quality.
- Support the immediate supervisor to complete item requirements/procurement needs and update work plan for Prevention activities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate must hold a degree in a relevant field such as Sociology, Social Work, Law, Education, and the Humanities. Essential
- A minimum of two years of prior professional experience in GBV and protection programming and working with vulnerable individuals or communities.
- Two years of experience managing and delivering capacity development plans for multisectoral teams (Preferably in Protection & GBV)
- Experience implementing GBV interventions and behavioral change approaches including SASA Now! EMAP, Adolescent Girls Programming among others.
- Experience working with other partners and functions e.g., OPM, UNHCR and INGOs
- Exhibit commitment, integrity, and accountability to the ‘IRC Way’- Global Standards for Professional Conduct
- Strong communication and organizational skills, timeliness and determine priorities and great attention to details.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently.
- Excellent ability to interpret, analyze and synthesize information in a fast‐paced envir
- Proactive, flexible, team spirited and willing to learn.
- Good computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English
