About US:

Children’s Rights and Violence Prevention Fund (CRVPF) is a child right and social justice regional intermediary organization based in Uganda whose mission is to provide grants and capacity development support to community organizations operating in four countries in East Africa: Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Kenya. CRVPF supports community institutions that work with children, adolescent girls, boys, and their families, communities, and schools to advance rights and prevent violence, sexual abuse, and sexual exploitation of children. CRVPF uses a cluster partnership model for grant making. The model encourages 2-5 Community Organizations and local NGOs to work in a cluster partnership using one grant to address children’s needs in one particular project area where children are at risk.

CRVPF provides an initial short-term Planning and Learning Grant to cluster partners. The aim is to give partners time and space to know each other’s strategies, develop closer working relationships, identify a common project area, conduct a joint situational analysis, listen to children, adolescent girls and boys, and families. The process will help to develop a multi-year proposal for CRVPF grant support. This allows for the local development of child protection environments responding systematically to specific risks and building on local assets.


Job Summary:  The Finance and Grant Coordinator will work closely with CRVPF executive director and Program Coordinators. She/he will develop the organization’s financial annual plan and follow the proper utilization of the budget. The Coordinator will review the financial proposal submitted to CRVPF before the agreement is developed. The Finance and Grant Coordinator will work closely with the Program Coordinators in supporting financial due diligence, conduct financial monitoring and evaluation of partners’ financial utilization, organize financial training to partners finance officers and directors.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: The Finance and grant officer will collaborate with CRVPF executive director and program Coordinators to facilitate the financial planning, grant reviewing, and grant and office expense payments. The role and responsibilities of the finance Coordinator officer are as follows,

Financial Activities:

  • Work with the Executive Director to establish annual core operating and grant making budgets.
  • Maintain basic financial system, chart of expenses, income and expenditure records, and procurement procedures using
  • Setup payroll system is consistent with the Uganda regulations that provide local staff salary, benefit, tax, etc.
  • Review all payments through cash flow and monthly bank reconciliation.
  • Review all claims, reports to appropriate funding bodies (multiple funders) and maintain all relevant paperwork in good order.
  • Prepare a full monthly, quarterly, bi-annually, and end of the year report to donors
  • Assist in the preparation of annual accounts
  • Work in coordination with the Finance and Admin Officer and receive the reaccepts on time
  • Assist with the project finance-related work as requested by the director.
  • Work with the Executive Director to develop and improve systems as the organization grows.

Grant management activities:

  • Review financial proposals submitted by potential partners in collaboration with Program Coordinators
  • Conduct financial due diligence before grant provision.
  • Follow-up grant payment by the fiscal sponsor
  • Communicate with partners to know the exact amount received and request invoices.
  • Monitor partner’s program and review the grant utilization according to the agreed contract.
  • Recommend the next payment after reviewing the financial and audit reports of partners according to the grant agreement.
  • Design financial training manual and provide training to partner’s directors, programs, and finance staff.
  • Conduct periodic monitoring visits with the program officers to review partner’s financial activities and provide supports to partner’s financial staff as required.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The Finance and grant officer is expected to have the following educational background and work experiences for the post.
  • She/he should have an Advanced degree in accounting, financial management, or other relevant fields.
  • She/he should have 8-10 years’ work experience in one or more of the following areas: financial and grant officer positions (particularly in grant making organizations) working in Eastern Africa,
  • Experience in complex project development and management, particularly in East African countries.
  • Outstanding communication skills, including proven ability in: financial planning and budgeting, financial review, financial monitoring, auditing and conducting financial training for partners.
  • Grant making experience with excellent judgment;
  • Strong skills working in teams and across many types of organizations – collaborator; problem solver; relationship-builder; and strong inter-personal skills.
  • Stress tolerance and resilience; a sense of humor; highly organized; attention to detail; and ability to work under pressure with multiple and shifting priorities.
  • Multi-cultural experience and willingness to travel (at least 25%) of the time.
