Job Summary:  The Project Assistant (Coordination and
Policy) will work under the direct supervision of the IOM National Programme
Officer/MPA coordinator and in close cooperation with the Policy and Liaison
officer.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Assist
the NPO in supporting the National Coordination Committee on Migration (NCM) in
the implementation of its yearly plan of action and liaise between the NCM
secretariat, Government, local and international NGOs and other key
stakeholders as required;

·       
Provide
support to the NCM Secretariat in organizing and coordinating meetings,
trainings including drafting meeting agendas, sending out invitations, drafting
summaries of coordination meetings, circulation of relevant materials and
publications among partner agencies;

·       
Assist
the Programme Coordinator with clerical and operational support while assisting
the Government in the implementation of the Global Compact on Migration (GCM)
agenda in Uganda in coordination with the UN Network on Migration

·       
Provide
support to the Global Compact on Migration initiatives and activities in the
mission through the establishment of the UN Network on Migration in Uganda in
order to support the government meet its GCM commitments.

·       
Assist
in preparing trainings for staff to understand UN reforms

·       
Assist
in mapping government regulations and policies related to Migration

·       
Contribute
to overall IOM public information and communication activities by assisting in
preparing regular updates on activities.

Participate
in relevant meetings as assigned

·       
Perform
any other duties as may be assigned from to time.

 


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
ideal candidate for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Project
Assistant (Coordination and Policy) should either have completed a Bachelor’s
degree from an accredited academic institution in Political or Social Sciences,
Business Administration, International Relations, with at least two years of
relevant working experience OR completed High school diploma from an accredited
academic institution, with four years of relevant professional experience.

·       
Previous
experience in implementing migration management project and capacity-building
activities;

·       
Experience
liaising with government agencies as well as with various national and
international NGOs;

·       
Sound
and proven understanding of migration issues in Uganda and in East Africa.

·       
Experience
working with United Nations Agency, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs),
Government agencies or in the private sector;

·       
Proficient
in computer software: Microsoft Office (Outlook, Words, Excel, power point and
Internet Explorer).

·       
Strong
interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and
coaching

·       
Ability
to work well in an international environment with people from diverse
backgrounds and cultures

·       
High
level of computer literacy

·       
Self-starter
who can work independently under pressure.

·       
Excellent
problem -solving skills and eye for detail

·       
Excellent
organization skills;

·       
Assessment
and secondary data research analysis skills.

·       
Analytical
and creative thinking.

·       
Languages:
Fluency in English and working
knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.
