About US:

The Palliative Care
Association of Uganda (PCAU) is the national association for palliative care
providers in Uganda. It was registered as a Non-Governmental Organization in
2003 with a vision to extend palliative care to all patients and families in
need in Uganda. The association is composed of 1200 individual members and 24
member organizations. PCAU coordinates civil society efforts and works closely
with the government of Uganda to strengthen the integration of palliative care
services within the health care system across the country.

 

Job Summary:  PCAU seeks to recruit a dynamic professional
with the requisite ability to manage a program for Orphans and other Vulnerable
Children (OVC). The officer shall coordinate interventions of a program
supporting child caregivers following the chronic sickness or death of the
parent(s) and/or the child’s primary guardian.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Conducting
an assessment of the identified children to be enrolled on the program.

·       
Ensuring
that children access a package of the priority interventions listed for the
program. The interventions include economic strengthening; food and nutrition
security; health, water, sanitation and shelter; education; psychosocial
support and basic care; child protection and legal; support and; legal, policy
and institutional mechanisms.

·       
Generating
quality and timely quarterly and annual reports and update the responsible
teams and donors on the progress of activities.

·       
Documenting
and disseminating the annual significant change stories (intended or unintended
consequences of the program interventions) appropriately.

·       
Carrying
annual planning, budgeting and monitoring the progress of all program schedules
and expenditures.

·       
Supervising/Supporting
volunteers who are liaisons with the children in their communities

·       
Responding
to queries and requests for information about the program from several
stakeholders including the donors.

·       
Maintaining
databases and records about all children enrolled on the program.

·       
Managing
the transition of all program beneficiaries including those who graduate.

·       
Initiating
and supporting resources mobilization proposals and activities for program
sustainability.

·       
Supporting
programmatic themed areas around palliative care advocacy, research and
information sharing intended to address matters concerning child caregivers.

 


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and Social
Administration, Social Sciences and other related fields.

·       
Should
have Post Graduate qualifications in fields of Project Planning and Management
or Public Health.

·       
A
minimum of three years of relevant work experience in a reputable organization
preferably a Non-Government Organization (NGO) and direct experience with
government and donor representatives.

·       
Demonstrable
experience in Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) issues will be
an added advantage.

·       
Must be
dynamic, persuasive and convincing, self-motivated, and able to demonstrate a
high level of initiative.

·       
Have key
personal competencies in team and communication skills, networking, and
partnership skills
