Job Summary:  The Business Sustainability Specialist
position will be part of the Sustainability and Corporate Communications unit
and will support the implementation of Stanbic Bank Uganda’s Sustainability
Strategy with the aim to enhance responsible business and embed sustainability
practices across the organisation.

 

In line with the
Bank’s key strategic value drivers, Sustainability Management is a critical
aspect to creating long-term value for the business by delivering on the
Social, Economic and Environment (SEE)/Environment, Social and Governance (ESG)
strategic priorities and goals. The Bank’s sustainability vision is to ensure
that projects, partnerships or developments that are financed as well as social
investments create a positive social, economic and environmental impact.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Support the development of Stanbic Bank Uganda’s Sustainability
    strategy and plan: The plan will support the delivery of the SEE strategic
    priorities and business goals.
  • Drive the implementation process of Sustainability business measures
    and KPI’s: The measures are developed in collaboration with all business
    units.
  • Champion the Business integration on sustainability:  By feeding sustainability risks and
    opportunities into their sector reviews and support the SEE
    &Reputational risk team with their annual review of ESG policies.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of agreed KPI’s: To support the
    success of SEE/ESG initiatives
  • Support the business teams in the development of responsible
    financing proposals in order to ensure consideration of environmental,
    social and governance (ESG) issues when making investment decisions.
  • Researching regulatory compliance requirements that impact company
    operations.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of sustainability
    programs, and when needed, recommending changes to close strategic gaps.
  • Support the sustainability reporting process in the development of
    the integrated Annual Report and on-going reports to the Board and Senior
    Management teams.
  • Develop monthly reporting templates and matrix of measurement for
    performance.
  • Support the prepare industry positions through research and data
    gathering. These will be required for the press and broadcast media
    through interviews, press articles, speeches and conference presentations
    ensuring that complex messages are conveyed effectively.
  • Support the Senior Sustainability and Communications Manager in the
    management of key stakeholder relations/partnerships in relation to
    sustainability.
  • Support the public education and awareness with key stakeholders
    regarding the importance of sustainable management practices and Stanbic’s
    contribution to society.
  • Drive internal education and awareness of sustainability priorities
    to embed the culture of good corporate citizenship.
  • Project management: ensure effective project management and
    oversight for key sustainability projects.
  • Ensure close collaboration with the business teams in all
    sustainability initiatives.
  • Identify the Bank’s sustainability material issues and formulate
    business solutions that will promote environmentally friendly practices,
    positive social impact and good governance. 

 


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate for the Stanbic Bank Business Sustainability
    Specialist job placement must hold a bachelor’s degree in fields of study
    including environmental science, sustainable business, business management
    or related fields.
  • A minimum of seven years’ experience in Sustainability or
    Environmental management or related fields.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of ESG and Sustainability policies,
    standards, and global practices
  • Sustainability reporting
  • Experience on development and implementation of sustainability measures
  • Global trends and up coming ESG priorities
  • Strong analytical skills to support evaluation the performance of
    various initiatives, conduct research on changes to environmental
    regulatory procedures and identify relevant data to inform business
    decisions.
  • Experience in preparing reports for internal and external
    stakeholders.
  • Strong communications skills both written, verbal communication
    skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Good leadership skills and self-awareness in order to engage with
    various level of stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • confidence to present information to various stakeholders, lead
    client workshops and represent the company at industry events
  • The ability to manage client expectations around sustainability
    issues
  • Flexibility to work under pressure, responding to changing
    legislation and project and programme demand
  • Knowledge of environmental issues, but also technological solutions,
    and relevant environmental legislation, policy and guidance.
