Job Summary:  The Print Materials Specialist will support
the Materials Development Manager to work with the Early Grade Reading and
SRGBV teams to produce print-based teaching and learning materials for teacher
training, coaching, and literacy tutoring and to identify open-source
supplementary materials for EGR.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Collaborate
with home office STTA to advise the Early Grade Reading and SRGBV teams and
NCDC partners on current best practice in the production and use of print-based
teaching, learning, and training materials;

·       
Support
budgeting for the development and production of print-based teacher training
and coaching materials for EGR and SRGBV and of supplementary reading materials
for the early grades (P1-P4);

·       
Develop
a menu of open-source supplementary reading materials for the early grades
(P1-P4);

·       
Support
the presentation of revised EGR and SRGBV materials and the menu of open-source
EGR supplementary reading materials for NCDC’s approvals;

·       
Facilitate
NCDC writing panels in the revision of existing print-based SRGBV and EGR
supplementary materials;

·       
Lead
field testing of revised EGR and SRGBV materials in partnership with NCDC;

·       
Work
with the M&E team and NCDC to develop a quality assurance process and
field-testing protocol for revised EGR and SRGBV reading materials;

·       
Work
with Digital Materials Specialist to ensure alignment and coordination of print
and digital resources for students, teachers, and communities;

·       
Support
EGR and SRGBV staff in developing and delivering training on the use and
maintenance of print materials;

·       
Facilitate
the proofing of dummies for the printing of revised SRGBV and EGR materials;

·       
Assist
procurement team in development of RFPs and review of bids for printing and
distribution of print-based materials;

·       
Coordinate
with procurement team on warehousing and timely distribution of print-based
materials following their delivery by printers;

·       
Coordinate
with Private Sector Engagement staff to leverage resources to print and
distribute supplementary EGR materials;

·       
Facilitate
documentation of the print-based materials development, production and
distribution processes and the challenges involved, and

·       
Other
tasks as required in support of project goals.

 


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The applicant
must hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; an advanced degree and/or
training in instructional resources development and production is an added
advantage.

·       
Six
years of progressively responsible and directly relevant experience;

·       
Experience
in InDesign and in management of production processes using InDesign;

·       
Experience
producing print-based student learning materials, teacher training and coaching
resources, and/or materials for anti-SRGBV campaigns;

·       
Experience
testing and/or evaluating print materials for the classroom and the community;

·       
Experience
planning and delivering training for teachers and community groups;

·       
Understanding
of Uganda’s education context, particularly the role of NCDC in materials
design, development, and oversight;

·       
Ability
to lead multiple small teams working simultaneously;

·       
Ability
to write reports;

·       
Ability
to work in a cross-cultural setting, negotiate diplomatically, and function
well under pressure.

·       
Language:  Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of Uganda’s
Local Languages is an added advantage.
