About US:

Makerere University,
Kampala is Uganda’s largest and oldest institution of higher
learning, first established as a technical school in 1922. It became
an independent national university in 1970. Today, Makerere University is
composed of nine colleges and one school offering programmes for about 36,000
undergraduates and 4,000 postgraduates.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
The
University Secretary shall be responsible for the general administration of the
University, including the custody of the Seal and administration of its Assets
and resources.

·       
Secretary
to the University Council;

·       
Shall be
the Accounting Officer of the University;

·       
Disseminate
Council decisions to implementing units in a timely manner;

·       
Responsible
for all legal matters of the University;

·       
Responsible
for all procurement and disposal matters of the University;

·       
Advise
Council on Integrity and propriety of governance;

·       
Provide
input to statutes and policies of the University;

·       
Ensure
that the Oath of Secrecy and Allegiance is administered to members of Council
and its Committees;

·       
Responsible
for the seal and management of assets and liabilities of the University.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
applicant for the Makerere University Secretary job placement must hold a
Master’s Degree in Management Studies or relevant Management, Administration
field or Master of Laws from a reputable Institution;

·       
An
Honors Bachelor’s Degree in Arts, Social Sciences, Business Administration,
Education, Law or humanities in a relevant field;

·       
Possession
of ICSA (Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators) or
Administrative Officer’s Law certificate is an added advantage.

·       
A
minimum of 12 years’ experience; 3 of which should have been at Senior
Managerial level.

·       
Leadership
and supervisory skills;

·       
Ability
to build, lead and work with teams;

·       
Computer
literacy;

·       
Interpersonal
& communication skills;

·       
Quick
judgment and decision making;

·       
Very
good tactical and strategic planning skills;

·       
Ability
to initiate change;

·       
Integrity.
