About US:

The Atomic
Energy Council (AEC) is a government statutory body established by the Atomic
Energy Act No.24 of 2008, Laws of Uganda to regulate the peaceful applications
of ionizing radiation for the protection and safety of the individuals, society
and the environment from dangers resulting from ionizing radiation.

 

Job Summary:  The Technician will ensure that all equipment
is maintained in good working condition for use such as in the quality control
testing to be able to generate accurate and reliable results.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Organize and store all equipment according to safety
instructions.

·       
Perform general maintenance and repairs on all equipment.

·       
Develop operating procedures for use of each equipment and
ensure that they are followed by staff.

·       
Provide training on instrumentation.

·       
Offer daily operations and systems support to personnel.

·       
Maintain inventory of repairs, equipment and supplies and
ensure that equipment logs and record books are updated on a daily basis.

·       
Maintain an up to-date library of required service manuals
and technical update sheets.

·       
Prepare laboratory procedures and manuals.

·       
Perform works in the laboratory.

·       
Respond quickly in the event of an emergency, notify
appropriate personnel and follow safety protocol.

·       
Prepare monthly reports on the condition of all equipment
and advise management on the major repairs of equipment that may require to be
carried out externally and also report about obsolete equipment that would be
due for disposal.

·       
Coordinate and manage manufacturer relationships for instrument
parameters and any related required information.

·       
Carry out daily checks (verifiable by records) to ensure
that all equipment is in excellent working conditions following operating
instructions.

·       
Carry out periodic cleaning, tests and calibration; troubleshooting
breakdowns (where applicable).

·       
Review general and technical correspondences and queries,
and advise on the appropriate response to particular situations.

·       
Assist in carrying out research work.

·       
Perform preventive maintenance and quality control.

·       
Assist with implementation of engineering changes, and
start-up of new equipment/ spare parts as required.

·       
Perform other related duties as requested from time to
time

 


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
A minimum of Diploma in Electrical, Electronics,
Mechanical, Instrumentation, telecommunications, biomedical Engineering or any
other closely related field from a recognized University with excellent grades.

·       
A bachelor’s degree (honors) with second class upper and
above in the same field will be an added advantage.

·       
A minimum of two years of experience in a similar position
in a reputable organization.

·       
Demonstrate excellent hands-on technical experience in the
safe operation of equipment

·       
Commitment to continuous improvement

·       
Demonstrate computer literacy. Must also be able to
understand and interact with fully automated control systems and related
software applications.

·       
Understanding of health and safety regulations

·       
High level of integrity

·       
Good analytical and reporting skills

·       
Pay attention to detail

·       
Good communication skills

·       
Age: 25-35 years
