Job Summary:  The Child Protection Assistant will be
responsible for monitoring the welfare of Un Accompanied Minors (UAMs) /
Separated Children (SC) and other children at risk by carrying out home visits
and following up and document cases with different stake holders and providing
psychosocial support to UAMS/SC and other children at risk.  The purpose of this post is to provide day to
day management of prevention activities and other related activities in
Kyangwali Refugee settlement under the supervision of the Child Protection
officer.

 

The Child Protection
Assistant will undertake Child Protection prevention and response related
activities that may include among others; training, awareness raising, forums
with opinion leaders and Focus group discussions etc.  Work and liaise closely with Child Protection
Officer, Lead case workers on documentation of program activities as per the
donor requirements.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Conduct
case management services for vulnerable children at risk. These will include
cases of abuse, exploitation, neglect and violence especially UASC and other
children at risk.

·       
Identify
and document vulnerable children.

·       
Conduct
assessments basically BIDs and BIAs for vulnerable children.

·       
Direct
service provision basically through material support.

·       
Conduct
referrals and follow ups for children at risk.

·       
Support
the child protection case workers in terms of capacity building and technical
guidance.

·       
Conduct
alternative care placements for the UAMs and assess their needs.

·       
Identify
potential caregivers’ e.g. foster families for placement of UAMs and SC using
stipulated procedures throughout the project lifespan.

·       
Sensitize
the parents/caregivers on their roles and responsibilities on early child
development & protection throughout the project lifespan.

·       
Conduct
home visits to foster care homes and assess needs, ascertain the living
conditions of the UAMs/SC and provide ongoing support to families, foster and
alternative care systems.

·       
Facilitate
foster parents trainings on Child rights and general protection.

·       
Conduct
daily field visits to support child protection case workers and child
protection community structures, mentoring through technical back-stopping and
to train duty bearers throughout the project lifespan.

·       
Conduct
child protection training for CPCWs, CPCs among other community structures.

·       
Assist
the protection team in organizing and delivering protection trainings and
promoting the refugee law on the rights of children.

·       
Contribute
to the daily quality implementation, monitoring and evaluation of child
protection related projects and interventions.

·       
Contribute
to the development of advocacy points based on assessment of situation and
risks

·       
Identify
and strengthen community structures through engaging community leaders, camp
management and other stakeholders to ensure that the survivors receive adequate
support at the community level.

·       
Facilitate
formation of support groups to enhance community engagement & ownership on
Child Protection prevention work.

·       
Actively
participate in scheduled meetings such as Child Protection inter-agency
Coordination meetings.

·       
Work in
close collaboration with the response team to ensure ongoing needs of children
and girls are being met in the prevention related activities.

·       
Strengthen
existing referral systems and networks of psycho-social service providers

·       
In
collaboration with other partners, design prevention activities/interventions
within the refugee and host community.

·       
Participate
in conducting trainings for partners on relevant organizational development
areas and support peer learning between ALIGHT and other partner agencies.

·       
Proactively
contribute to quality and timely drafting of weekly, monthly reports.

·       
Perform
any other duties assigned to you.

 


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
ideal candidate for the ALIGHT Child Protection Assistant job must hold a
Bachelor’s degree in Social work, Social Sciences, Community Psychology, Adult
and Community Education and Development studies.

·       
A
minimum of two years’ experience in working on Child Protection issues with an
INGO.

·       
Fluency
in Swahili and ability to ride a motorcycle with a valid license (Class A) is
an added advantage.
