About US:
Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC) evolved from an
animal orphanage set up by the Game Department in 1952 as a sanctuary to care
for; the sick, injured, orphaned wild animals, sometimes confiscated from
illegal wildlife trade. In 1994, under the Trustees Incorporation Act Cap 147,
UWEC was transformed into the Entebbe Zoo. Through the UWEC Act-2015, UWEC is
now a fully-fledged statutory body under the Ministry of Tourism Wildlife and
Antiquities by the UWEC Act, 2015.
The UWEC Act, 2015 mandates UWEC to; undertake Conservation Education,
wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and breeding of endangered animal species among
others.
Job Summary: The
Public Relations Officer will be responsible for development and implementation
of UWEC’s communication strategies in line with organizational goals and
objectives
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Develop and execute consistent communication
strategy for UWEC.
· Develop and implement an all-inclusive
Corporate Affairs, Communications budget that will ensure return on investment
and increase UWEC’s footprint and public awareness.
· Develop crisis management communication
policies and procedure in line with the mandates of UWEC.
· Develop strategic-level collaborative
partnerships that will maximize and add value to the growth of UWEC while
mitigating the risk and exposure on its target market.
· Develop the Corporate Social Responsibility
strategy and ensure that it meets the objectives, standards and expectations of
the UWEC, participating partners and beneficiaries.
· Plan, develop and implement public relations
strategies regarding promotion of UWEC.
· Use all forms of media and communications to
project and protect UWEC’s image including updates on the website.
· Research, write and disseminate press
releases to targeted media on activities of the UWEC.
· Writing and editing in-house magazines, case
studies, speeches, articles, quarterly and annual reports.
· Plan and organize press conferences to
enhance the reputation of UWEC.
· Performing any other duties in the line of
communication, media and public relations as may be required from time to time
by the UWEC management.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree
in Mass communication or any other related field
· Three years of experience, two years MUST be
from a Tourism, Conservation facility or service industry
