About UNRA:

The Uganda National
Roads Authority (UNRA) was established by the National Authority Act, No. 15 of
2006. UNRA became operational on 1st July 2008. The mandate of UNRA is to
develop and maintain the national roads network, advise Government on general
roads policy and contribute to addressing of transport concerns.

 

Job Summary:  The Engineer will be responsible for carrying
out independent Geotechnical data collection, tests and analyses, reviewing quality
of ground support systems and slope designs and making recommendations on
ground support systems. The Geotechnical Engineer will also be responsible for
reviewing ground conditions to 36 ensure that unforeseen situations are
detected at an early stage to enable corrective design and construction
measures to be implemented.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Carry
out independent Geotechnical investigations in line with departmental standards
and targets;

·       
Carry
out reviews on ground conditions during design in line with departmental
guidelines and standards;

·       
Assess
the materials to be used for each project in line with departmental guidelines
and standards;

·       
Carry
out reviews and quality assurance on geotechnical reports submitted by external
Service Providers in line with departmental standards;

·       
Responding
to audit reports in line with departmental guidelines and standards;

·       
Develop
a risk matrix and put in place risk mitigation measures in the Geotechnical
area;

·       
Participate
in Planning, budgeting and reporting in line with departmental guidelines and
targets.

 


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
applicant for the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) Geotechnical Engineer
job must hold an Honors Degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, or related field;

·       
Professional
registration with the ERB or relevant Association of professional engineers in
the commonwealth countries is an added advantage;

·       
Other
Post Graduate qualifications in Civil Engineering, Geology, or other relevant
field will be an added advantage;

·       
A
minimum of three years’ experience in Geotechnical investigations for roads and
bridges.

·       
Computer
literacy is a must.

·       
High
level of integrity;

·       
Proven
track record of outstanding performance;

·       
Excellent
interpersonal, particularly staff/management relations;

·       
Excellent
oral and written communication skills.
