coordination of Education and training for Refugees and people affected by
conflict.

 

Windle International
Uganda is the lead partner of UNHCR in implementing Education Projects in
Uganda with close collaboration with the Government of Uganda through the
Office of the Prime Minister.  WIU seeks
to recruit a suitably qualified person to support the DAFI funded scholarship
Program for the following position:

 

Job Summary:  The Student Liaison Officer will support the
Scholarships Program by offering career guidance, psychosocial support and
general support to the students/ beneficiaries on the scholarships program. The
Student liaison/welfare officer (SLO) will also provide a link between
students, academic institutions, and will guide students on how best to access
internship opportunities and possible employment opportunities   with potential employers.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Provide
career guidance and psychosocial support to the DAFI Sponsored Students and
where applicable make referrals to Partners or other designated institutions
offering psychosocial support and professional counsellors.

·       
Review
and follow up on Academic reports to monitor Students’ academic Performance and
identify academically weak Students for further support

·       
Provide
orientation and support to newly enrolled Students to enable them settle in and
adapt to Life outside the settlements.

·       
Monitor
the Students’ welfare to ensure the Students are not exposed to risky behaviour
at the Institutions of Higher Learning which may divert them from their routine
academics Organize Health Camps for the Students in coordination with the
Insurance Company as part of their corporate social responsibility.

·       
Assess
vulnerable category Students (e.g. breastfeeding and expectant female students)
for additional welfare support

·       
Coordinate
and liaise with the University Faculty Heads/Lecturers to support academically
Weak Students

·       
Facilitate
meetings and feedback sessions to ensure there are linkages between Students,
Parents guardians on matters of academic performances and Community engagement
where necessary

·       
Support
Students to identify Internship placements through coordination with NGOs,
other corporate organizations and offer recommendations appropriately

·       
Continuously
update the students on the DAFI Scholarship entitlements, any possible changes
in their benefits

·       
Participate
in planning sessions for DAFI Students’ Clubs as they map out community/
Outreach activities

·       
Document
success stories and encourage DAFI Students to participate in Voluntary
activities during Holidays as part of the Scholarship requirement.

·       
Compile
activity, monthly reports and Quarterly reports and Work plans

·       
Attend
and report on alumni meetings’ outcomes, providing input and support

·       
Any
other duty assigned

 


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
ideal candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Guidance and Counselling,
Community Psychology or any related course from a reputable institution

·       
At least
two years of working experience in an INGO or NGO supporting vulnerable groups,
preferably teens and young adults

·       
Comprehensive
knowledge and experience of counselling and offering psychosocial support to
teens and young adults

·       
Knowledge
of capacity building, learning and development activities and understanding of
how to create learning and sharing environment

·       
Strong
Verbal Communication and Listening skills with highly impactful influencing and
persuasion skills

·       
Excellent
skills in report writing and presentation

·       
Ability
to adjust to constantly changing situations and to be flexible while
maintaining focus on delivery and follow-through

·       
Strong
analytical and conceptual thinking skills; able to understand complex issues
and translate them into simple, workable actions and plans
