Job Summary: The Occupational Health, Safety &
Environment Coordinator will mainly develop, communicate and implement unit
programs that complies with Health, Safety and Environment LafargeHolcim Group
Standard, relevant local legislation and any other standards, regulations or
other requirements through obtaining management commitment, participation, involvement
that translate into change of behaviors of workers in both industrial and
logistics.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
·
Develop
unit health safety and environment programs aligned to the Group standards;
·
Carry
out regular induction of all contractors and new employees to sensitize the
workers on OHS risks in the plant;
·
Conduct
regular inspection of equipment, Job Safety Assessments, Safe Work Systems and
provide recommendations with follow-up to ensure HSE performance improvement.
·
Conduct
risk assessment audits within the industrial and logistics space;
·
Monitor
compliance to HSE legal and other requirements to which the operations
subscribes to, including industrial best practices;
·
Conduct
regular PPE audits to ensure that all workers are wearing adequate and
appropriate protective gear;
·
Drive
effective implementation of HSE programs in order to drive a zero harm culture
across the business unit;
·
Liaise
with the operations team to ensure that pollution control measures, emissions
monitoring systems and discharge are in place and compliant to applicable laws,
regulations and standards;
·
Conduct
regular HSE related coaching, trainings and awareness programs for all workers;
·
Conduct
annual Health and Safety culture surveys
·
Develop
and monitor unit annual Health Safety and Environment Improvement Plans
·
Participate
in data capture of environmental parameters during the annual sustainability
reporting campaign;
·
Participate
in technical evaluation of HSE aspects during procurement and contracting
(including regular monitoring of SHE performance of contracts during and after
execution)
·
Participate
and contribute towards HS review of designs for new and modified equipment or
plants;
·
Identify
and Monitor HS critical controls as per the LH standards
·
Ensure
that HSE Committees are functional
·
Provide
quality assurance and guidance in the review of Statutory reports,
Environmental Impact Assessment and Audits of projects within the Plant
·
Conduct
site verification to verify effectiveness of mitigation measures arising from
audits, assessments and statutory inspections conducted by stakeholders
·
Prepare
and submit quarterly and annual reports to NEMA and other stakeholders
·
Develop
and challenge annual unit HSE budgets
·
Participate
in industrial and road incident investigations to determine root causes and
corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence;
·
Conduct
drills and coordinate all emergencies in the areas of OHSE including pandemics
to ensure safety of lives of workers;
·
Participate
and monitor the performance of Area Management programs
·
Coordinate
timely collection of hazardous wastes by licenced companies;
·
Actively
participate in the unit Business Resilience Team meetings;
·
Solicit
and or generate innovative ideas and approaches to solve persistent HSE related
challenges
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
·
The
ideal candidate for the Hima Cement Occupational Health, Safety &
Environment Coordinator job should hold a Bachelors of Honors Degree in Health,
Safety and Environment, Engineering or a related discipline from a recognized
University
·
A
globally recognized professional Health & Safety qualification such as
NEBOSH, IOSH, NOSA is an added advantage.
·
At least
three years of experience in the field of Health, Safety and Environment
management capacity
·
Attained
skill proficiency in the development of safety Management System and Safe Work
Culture; establishing of policies, procedures and guidelines; conducting risk
assessment, audit, and accident investigation; managing of contractor; and
facilitating training.
·
Well-versed
with all the relevant local Health & Safety acts, regulations, guidelines
& code of practices.
·
Ability
to use contacts or information networks to obtain information
·
Ability
to understand organization behaviour, address its underlying problems and improve
the position
·
Ability
to adapt to changes in the external environment and sponsor new approaches and
technology to promote efficiency
·
Ability
to strive to achieve high quality results with persistent positivity in the
face of challenges and setbacks.
·
Ability

·
