Reports to: Senior Practitioner

Child’s i Foundation is a charity with a small footprint, making a big
impact for children and families in Uganda. Child’s i Foundation helps
reunite children with their own families where possible and finds loving,
Ugandan adoptive or foster families where the child’s own family cannot be
found or is unsafe. We help re purpose orphanages into community hub
centres that provide services that prevent family separation in the first
place.

 

Job Summary:  The Social
Worker will:

·       
Provide a
comprehensive social work service to children and families in need

·       
Carry
out child and family assessments for children in and out of care

·       
Safely
reintegrate children in care into families

·       
Work in
partnership with children and families

·       
Take responsibility
for assigned caseload

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
To carry
a complex child and family caseload, which includes children in care, children
in need, child protection, and care givers

·       
To
participate in regular supervision with the Senior Practitioner and to ensure
that the Senior Practitioner is made aware of any issues of major importance or
concern.

·       
To work
on own initiative, managing and prioritizing own workload under the direction
of the supervisor.

·       
To
support co-ordination and conduct the training of partners.

·       
To
liaise effectively with other agencies to ensure that children receive
comprehensive services and, where appropriate to be involved in
multi-disciplinary work.

·       
Provide
ongoing supervision, capacity building for RCF staff, children and families,
with particular emphasis on ensuring that RCF staff deliver high quality
support services to children and families

·       
To carry
out the full range of assessments and plans within the organization’s
timescales and standards.

·       
To
attend team meetings and contribute to team development.

·       
To
maintain individual case records including updating the case management system
in accordance with the Organization’s guidance and procedures.

·       
To
participate in the planning of future service delivery as part of the team.

·       
To
develop innovative solutions to intractable family problems

·       
Manage
resources effectively including money, equipment and stock allocated to you.

·       
Support
child safeguarding activities within the organisation

·       
Working
with the MEAL department to ensure that the learning of good practices is
documented for internal and external sharing

·       
Prepare
and submit timely reports

·       
To carry
out identification, assessment and support the training of foster carers who
will provide family based alternative care option to children without parental
care.

·       
To
support the establishment, coordination and training of Community Development
Networks and any other child protection structures.

·       
Support
to build partnership and champions for DI within Mpigi District

·       
Any
other duties as assigned by management

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The applicant
must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and Social Administration

·       
Post
qualifying experience covering assessment; report writing; ability to form
trusting relationships; case planning, implementation and review.

·       
Previous
work experience relating to OVC programming.

·       
Child development,
theories of attachment and loss, Alternative care

·       
Government
policy relating to orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and in particular with
regard to alternative care

·       
Legislation
in relation to OVC, alternative care and adoption

·       
Basic IT
systems knowledge required

·       
Commitment
to learning and keeping up to date.

·       
Flexibility
to adapt to new roles, tasks and situations

·       
Patience
and the ability to remain calm in a crisis

·       
Commitment
to Child Protection

·       
Strong
observation, analytical and listening skills

·       
Ability
to negotiate and mediate on behalf of children and families

·       
Good
organizational skills to work with minimum supervision and plan meetings for
the caseload of clients
