About US:
The Foundation for
Community Development and Empowerment (FCDE) builds local capacity to lead
community change in rural East Africa. Acting as a catalyst, FCDE provides
direct support to increase each local partner organization’s (LPO) community
impact and ensures that local voices direct development.
Job Summary: The Community Development Fellow will be an
integral part of a dynamic team championing capacity building for FCDE and
local partner organizations (LPOs). Some of the key priority areas that the fellow
will be engaged in include resource mobilization, partnership development and
outreach, communications, and specialized initiatives that complement local
partners’ public health priorities. The fellow may also be involved in training
facilitation and project implementation depending on their interest. The fellow
will collaborate closely with FCDE staff and report directly to FCDE’s Country
Director with general project oversight from the sites’ program directors.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Partnership
Development, Outreach, and Communications
·
Identify
strategies to grow and enhance networks of local partners focused on health
outcomes, including assisting with current and planned specialized capacity
building initiatives
·
Research
and help FCDE and LPOs identify and build relationships with prospective
training and implementation partners in health specific arenas of community
development work
·
Work
with partner organizations to raise their profile through storytelling,
including identifying, documenting, and disseminating stories of community
impact through FCDE’s quarterly newsletter, website, social media, and other
communication channels
·
Assist
FCDE and LPOs with the production of outreach material such as quarterly
newsletters, the annual impact report, one-pagers, and other materials as
needed
Resource
Mobilization
·
Strengthen
FCDE’s capacity building support for health-focused LPOs through:
·
prospect
research that emphasizes a strong alignment between a prospective donor’s focus
and an LPO’s mission and programs
·
proposal
writing and budgeting good practices that yield well written, competitive
proposals
·
enhancing
FCDE staff skills in the review of draft proposals and provision of feedback on
areas for improvement as part of FCDE’s small grants program and one-on-one
proposal development consultations
·
Research
prospective funders and implementation partners to build FCDE’s database and
facilitate the regular dissemination of requests for proposals to our health
partners
·
Monitor
donor trends, policies, and funding mechanisms and update FCDE and partners
based on their strategic programmatic objectives
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
·
Demonstrated
experience in building relationships with partners or donors*
·
Strong
writing and editing skills, particularly in grant writing and developing
outreach and communications materials*
·
Public
speaking experience, as evidenced by conducting presentations, trainings, or
workshops*
·
Interest
in grassroots community development, especially in rural communities*
·
Interest
and ability to undertake field visits in and surrounding rural communities*
·
Excellent
critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills with ability to exercise
good judgement*
·
Ability
to effectively manage multiple priorities and approach new situations with an
open mind and patience*
·
High
degree of cultural sensitivity with a keen interest in learning about and from
people with different cultural and regional backgrounds*
·
Prior
experience in prospect research and proposal development
·
Experience
in workshop facilitation
·
Demonstrated
project management skills with the ability to ensure internal and external
collaborators achieve a time-bound goal or project
·
Self-starter
with ability to work effectively as a team member and independently
·
Resourceful,
flexible, and able to adapt to changing environments
·
Prior
training in organizational development or experience related to community
development topics (e.g. M&E, financial management, community needs
assessments)
·
Dedicated
to innovative approaches to social change
