About US:
The National Library
of Uganda was established by the National Library Act, 2003. This Act repealed the
Public Libraries Act, 1964 which had established the Public Libraries Board.
The Board had been charged with the responsibility of establishing, equipping,
managing and maintaining libraries in Uganda. Following the enactment of the
Local Governments Act, 1997, this responsibility was decentralized to the local
governments.
Job Summary: The Digital Literacy Coach, under the
supervision of the National Library of Uganda (NLU) Project Manager will ensure
continued support to the public and community libraries in planning and
delivery of basic digital and mobile literacy training programs as well as
continually monitor, evaluate, and report on the progress.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
·
Report
directly to the NLU Project Manager.
·
Work
collaboratively with NLU project team and project partners in the development
of the curriculum of the basic digital and mobile literacy programs for women
and youth to be delivered in public and community libraries.
·
Work
collaboratively with NLU project team and project partners in delivering
training of trainers program to selected librarians.
·
Assist
in adapting basic digital and mobile literacy training materials to the Ugandan
context and needs of main target groups.
·
Serve as
an advisor and coach to librarians individually on planning and delivery of
basic digital and mobile literacy programs in their libraries.
·
Run day
by day support to libraries, including telephone and online help desk and
monitoring visits to libraries.
·
Monitor
the implementation of basic digital and mobile literacy programs in libraries,
including monitoring of reporting and summarizing individual library reports on
performance and outcomes into project-level reports and assisting to
·
perform
yearly impact surveys.
·
Contribute
to planning and facilitation of yearly knowledge meetings of
librarians-trainers and learning circles facilitators.
·
Contribute
to knowledge and good practice sharing in library networks in Uganda and in
Africa in general.
·
Oversee
the development of promotional material about the project, and coordinate
outreach efforts with individual public libraries.
·
Respond
quickly and effectively to all project partners, including EIFL, Maendeleo
Foundation, and P2PU.
·
Be
available to attend project-related meetings and events, and for counsel via
e-mail, skype, or other telecommunication means
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
·
The
applicant must hold an associate or Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
·
At least
3 years of training experience
·
At least
2 years’ experience of digital literacy training, including mobile devices, to
·
diverse
target groups.
·
Knowledge
and ability to apply interactive and engaging training methods.
·
Demonstrated
ability to function effectively as a trainer leader.
·
Effective
presentation skills
·
Exceptional
communication and interpersonal skills.
·
Excellent
management and organizational skills
·
Experience
of working in/with a public or community library; Experience in
·
managing
projects and grants is an added advantage
