Chancellor

 

About US:

Makerere University,
Kampala is Uganda’s largest and oldest institution of higher
learning, first established as a technical school in 1922. It became
an independent national university in 1970. Today, Makerere University is
composed of nine colleges and one school offering programmes for about 36,000
undergraduates and 4,000 postgraduates.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
The Dean
of Students Provides leadership in all matters relating to students’ welfare
and discipline.

·       
Organise
and control halls of residence and all matters related to accommodation of both
resident and non-resident students;

·       
Supervise
and appraise staff in the Department;

·       
Enforce
rules and regulations of the University and all matters related to students’
discipline;

·       
Establish
and monitor channels of communication in regard to student welfare;

·       
Oversee
the operations of the students’ guild and offer guidance;

·       
Oversee
the organisation and running of sports and games;

·       
Prepare
annual budget estimates for submission to the finance committee and account for
funds of the unit;

·       
Oversee
all matters related to students’ health and discipline;

·       
Oversee
the operations of the places of worship;

·       
Any
other related duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
applicant for the Makerere University Dean of Students job placement must hold
a Master’s degree in Education, Business Administration or Management;

·       
An
honors Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Social Sciences or Arts or SWASA or
Business Administration.

·       
At least
12 years of relevant working experience at least 3 of which must be at senior
managerial level.

·       
Leadership
and supervisory skills;

·       
Ability
to build, lead and work with teams;

·       
Computer
literacy;

·       
Interpersonal
& communication skills;

·       
Quick judgment
and decision making;

·       
Ability
to initiate change;

·       
Integrity.
