the quality of life of orphans and other vulnerable children.
About USAID ICYD Activity:
The USAID Integrated
Child and Youth Development Activity (USAID ICYD Activity) aims to improve
learning outcomes, advance HIV epidemic control in Uganda, and ensure that
children and youth can lead resilient, healthy, and productive lives. The USAID
ICYD Activity will deliver critical HIV/GBV/violence prevention and response
services to children and youth and their families in communities, clinics, and
schools. Within USAID’s Journey to Self-Reliance Framework, USAID ICYD Activity
will build the operational and technical capacity of four Ugandan Primary Local
Partner (PLP) organizations to become direct recipients of USG funding within
two years while strengthening government capacity to deliver core services to
children within an integrated referral network and case management system.
Job Summary: The Social Protection and Livelihood Officer
will be responsible for linking beneficiaries to social protection programs
such as wealth creation programs etc. and spear heading case conferencing
activities within the communities. The Social Protection and Livelihoods
Officer will report to the OVC/Case Management Manager.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
·
Providing
leadership in developing innovative livelihood intervention that are consistent
with OVC programming and PEPFAR priorities.
·
Leading
the livelihoods needs assessments within ICYD target groups and areas of
operation.
·
Managing
and ensuring the effective implementation of livelihood interventions across
ICYD through proper targeting and result oriented approaches.
·
Building
the capacity of district project officers in managing and supporting livelihood
interventions.
·
In
charge of developing, disseminating and orienting staff on livelihood program
management and monitoring tools.
·
Coordinate
with project team to provide technical support in OVC household economic
strengthening programming.
·
Actively
promote best practices and a shared, vision of quality assurance of monitoring
and evaluation through an improved standard of OVC Household Economic
Strengthening programming.
·
Ensure the
application of “Do no Harm Principles” in OVC Household Economic Strengthening
programming while strengthening community mobilization strategies to reduce
stigmatization.
·
Maintain
and avail appropriate technical resources.
·
Create
linkages with both the private sector and public sector for other livelihood
opportunities for OVC.
·
Responsible
for promoting and ensuring that the program makes optimal use of economic
development models and frameworks to support vulnerable communities to improve
their household incomes, and contribute to the wellbeing of children and,
transformation of families and communities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
·
The
applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Entrepreneurship,
International Development, Business Administration, community development, or
related field. A Post graduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management or
any related field and Training in micro-finance is an added advantage.
·
Four
years’ experience in household economic strengthening, advisory or support role
with a national or international NGO is highly desirable.
·
Excellent
communication, team building and training skills with the ability to establish
and maintain effective working relations in and outside the organization.
