the quality of life of orphans and other vulnerable children.

 

About USAID ICYD Activity:

The USAID Integrated
Child and Youth Development Activity (USAID ICYD Activity) aims to improve
learning outcomes, advance HIV epidemic control in Uganda, and ensure that
children and youth can lead resilient, healthy, and productive lives. The USAID
ICYD Activity will deliver critical HIV/GBV/violence prevention and response
services to children and youth and their families in communities, clinics, and
schools. Within USAID’s Journey to Self-Reliance Framework, USAID ICYD Activity
will build the operational and technical capacity of four Ugandan Primary Local
Partner (PLP) organizations to become direct recipients of USG funding within
two years while strengthening government capacity to deliver core services to
children within an integrated referral network and case management system.

 

Job Summary:   The SGBV Community Engagement Coordinator will
be responsible for supporting the roll-out and implementation of Stepping
Stones community/youth group sessions on HIV/GBV & poverty and enable youth
to make informed decisions about their lives. The SGBV Community Engagement
Coordinator will report to the OVC/Case Management Manager.

 

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:

·        
Support
to the psychosocial (physical, social, emotional) wellbeing of children with
GBV victims and their families.

·        
Build
the staff capacity to provide direct and appropriate support services to GBV
survivors.

·        
Take
lead in Prevention and response to sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) and
gender-based violence (GBV) in project communities.

·        
Mentor,
supervise and monitor of gender-based violence implementation and draft
monitoring action plan for quality control.

·        
Ensure
relevant referral forms are in place and implemented accordingly.

·        
Coordinate
monthly meetings including, parents’ forum and child protection committee.

·        
Ensure
partner staff are supervised regularly to ensure activities are carried out in
line with minimum standard guidelines.

·        
Strengthen
integration of GBV prevention and response, rights-based approach, gender and
SRHR/HIV issues for women and young people.

·        
Work
closely with district project officers to manage, monitor, and evaluate ongoing
program implementation around GBV for women and young people, providing
technical support to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and coherence of program
implementation.

·        
Support
project teams and partners to develop GBV advocacy and policy documents.

·        
Build
the capacity of ICYD staff, government and implementing partners to effectively
diagnose gaps in GBV prevention and response, propose effective strategies to
address existing bottlenecks, and support coordination of the multi-sectoral
GBV prevention and response.

·        
Ensure
robust tracking of GBV program implementation and financial expenditure, and
support ICYD implementing partners to submit quality technical reports in
conformity with signed agreements.

·        
Actively
participate in the evaluation and documentation of GBV program results, best
practices and lessons learned and effectively share these with relevant
partners to inform programming, policy, and advocacy.

·        
Support
ICYD staff and partners to generate quality GBV data, analysis and utilization
for evidence-based decision making, policy and program formulation, monitoring
and evaluation.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·        
Master’s
degree in Gender based studies or its equivalent.

·        
Three
years’ experience in SGBV program management in technical, advisory or support
role with a national or international organization.

·        
Progressive
work experience in the field of Gender-Based Violence, Gender and/or Sexual and
Reproductive Health and Rights will be an added advantage.

·        
Excellent
communication, team building and training skills with the ability to establish
and maintain effective working relations in and outside the organization.

·        
Attentions
to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently.
