About US:

Building Tomorrow,
an international social-profit organization galvanizing communities to support
thriving schools in underserved areas throughout Uganda is seeking a highly
motivated, values-aligned Program Officer for the 18-month Tomorrow is Now
(TIN) project, a program to eliminate out-of-school children and bring every
primary school learner up grade-level in literacy and numeracy through a
coordinated partnership with local government. In this position, you have the
opportunity to be part of an innovative, and game-changing education program.
You will support the literacy and numeracy efforts across the project’s five
target districts, under the direction of the TIN Program Manager, and in close
collaboration with the Roots to Rise Program Manager. You will coordinate the
skills training and programming work of 16 Technical Advisors, along with their
work partners at the sub-county, school, and district levels. In this dynamic
role, you will have an opportunity to learn and grow in a dynamic environment
where no two days are the same.

 

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:

Program design and
coordination (40%)

        
Coordinating
a programmatic asset assessment for the TIN Roots to Rise (R2R) literacy and
numeracy program, determining the availability of resources and skills among
Coordinating Center Tutors (CCTs), LC1, LC2, LC3, and school staff

        
Leading
the operational planning and execution of the TIN R2R program, including
identifying venues, trainers, and leading all procurements, negotiations, and
communication with vendors and partners

        
Supporting
the creation of, and ongoing maintenance of program progress and impact
trackers

        
Representing
the TIN team, as requested by the PM, to local, national, and international
partners.

        
Coordinating,
under the direction of the PM, with the finance and procurement teams to ensure
adequate documentation, funds allotments, and project budget management

        
Supporting
the PM to integrate virtual learning, mobile R2R platform into the
comprehensive literacy and numeracy interventions for TIN

Training Design and
Delivery (30%)

        
Supporting
R2R skills-evaluation for TIN staff and relevant work partners.

        
Supporting
the R2R PM in adapting the R2R training and implementation curricula for use in
smaller, shorter, more frequent partial-day, non-residential trainings

        
Ensuring
all R2R lead trainers are equipped with the necessary adult-learning techniques
and technical mastery of R2R

        
Coordinating
the design of the lead instructor (CCT and TA) training, empowering CCTs and
TAs as master trainers and program coordinators

        
Supporting
TAs and CCTs as they disseminate R2R training in public primary schools across
the project’s five target districts

Monitoring,
Evaluation and Learning (30%)

        
Supporting
the PM to ensure all R2R program impact indicators are clear, tracked and
monitored consistently, and reports to all TAs and their government work
partners are easily accessible on an ongoing basis

        
Supporting
the PM and TAs as they conduct ongoing evaluation of program progress and
impact, ensuring all program data is being captured correctly, and shared back
frequently and systematically

        
Tracking
the impact of all R2R training events, determining degree of implementation,
fidelity to the program design, and impact on R2R learners, instructors, and
coordinators

        
Supporting
TAs and other Regional Building Tomorrow staff to create and share regular
project reports with school, LC1, LC2, LC3, and LC5 leadership

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

        
At least
two years of professional experience in education programming and or
implementation.

        
Fluency
in English plus at least one of these languages of instruction: Luganda,
Lusoga, Excellent writing skills with the ability to produce quality written
products tailored to various audiences

        
Strong
verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and a team-oriented mentality

        
Exceptional
attention to detail

        
Highly
motivated and ability to self-start, as well as see through projects from
beginning to end

        
Professional
demeanor and willingness to engage with partners through email, phone calls,
and in-person meetings

        
Strong
time management skills and ability to juggle multiple tasks at once

        
Keen
ability to identify goals, create clear plans to deliver results, and maintain
strict deadlines

        
Proficiency
in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and Google Suite, familiarity with
remote data collection tools (e.g. TaroWorks, Magpi, DevResults) is a plus.

        
A
curiosity in the world around him/her

        
Demonstrated
experience in training design, development, and delivery using adult learning
principles.

        
Ability
to manage and lead training teams

        
Demonstrated
experience in formal and non-formal pedagogy, based on child-cenetred learning

        
Runyakitara
or Runyoro.
