About Program:

TechnoServe in
partnership with ABInBev/Nile Breweries Limited is implementing a 12-month
program funded by FAO. The program aims to improve incomes of 720 smallholder
farmers along the Nile Breweries barley supply chain while contributing to FAO
goals of Climate Resilient Livelihood Opportunities for Women Economic
Empowerment (CRWEE). The program combines enhancing smallholder skills through
farmer field schools, financially empowering households through VSLA formation,
and supporting registration of farmers on ABInBev’s block chain platform. We
intend to expand these activities to 720 women and men barley smallholders in
West Nile in alignment with FAO’s CRWEE initiative. This program will be
implemented in the selected sub counties in the district of Zombo from October
2020- September 2021.

 

Job Summary:  Reporting to the Lead Business Advisor, the
Associate Business Advisor will ensure quality and robust capacity building of
720 farmers through selected Small holder farmer Groups from the selected
communities in Zombo district.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

Deliver Trainings
to 10 VSLAs and 24 Farmer Field Schools in Zombo district West Nile region

·       
Mobilize
and form new groups and on board existing ones where applicable in the
districts mentioned. Supervise the Farmer Trainers as they deliver modules (9
sessions) to these groups during the program period

·       
Conduct
gender sensitization & governance trainings to the VSLA groups

·       
Organize
trainings and TOTs on VSLA, Gender, Governance, and GAAP for Barley per the
project work plan

·       
Supervise
Farmer Trainers in the districts of responsibility and ensure that the farmer
field school modules are properly delivered

·       
Oversee
the establishment of demo-plots to ensure that they demonstrate the right
practices

·       
Work
with NBL field teams to ensure good relationships on the ground and good timing
of activities

·       
Document
lessons learnt during implementation to inform future projects as well as to
advice on improvements to be made while implementing current projects

Monitoring and
Reporting

·       
Contribute
to the revision and administration of the project monitoring tools for the
farmer field school and VSLA activities

·       
Actively
participate in Farmer group assessments, annual surveys and end of project
evaluation.

·       
Actively
participate in gender assessments and foster gender integration

·       
Ensure
all farmer field school and VSLA support activities are properly documented
using approved tools

·       
Produce
weekly 515 reports for all VSLA and farmer field school activities implemented

·       
Contribute
to writing and review of PSRs, donor reports ensuring accuracy of info provided

Planning and Budget
Management:

·       
Participate
in developing monthly work plans & reports

·       
Regularly
review specific activity budgets ensuring that planned activities are budgeted

·       
Ensure
that all expenses and payments are done in accordance with TechnoServe finance
policy

Coordination and
Representation

·       
Maintain
cordial working relationships with local leadership and NBL teams

·       
Regularly
liaise and network with like-minded NGOs and market facilitators at district
and regional levels

·       
Liaise
with other TechnoServe sectors to ensure coherence with holistic programming
and logistical efficiency

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The applicant
must hold a Degree in Agriculture, agribusiness, or related studies from
reputable university; specialized technical training in agriculture, value
chain development, collective marketing, and rural financial services is an
added advantage

·       
S/he
should have two years of practical field experience working with farmers,
savings groups, youth, business associations, business development services,
private sector partnerships, market linkages and rural financial services

·       
Experience
working with International Non-governmental organization (INGO) or development
agencies is an added advantage.
