The Medical Research
Council (MRC UK) is an internationally recognisedcentre of excellence with
dominant research themes in the areas of HIV and emerging infections, vaccines
and immunity, and chronic diseases and cancer. Through a multidisciplinary
approach, intersecting basic science, epidemiological research,
social-behavioural research and the conduct of new intervention evaluation
studies, the Unit contributes knowledge on changing epidemics and diseases, the
evaluation of innovative health care options, treatment and prevention and the
development of health policy and practice in Africa and worldwide. Following the
signing of strategic transfer agreements between the London School of Hygiene
& Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and the Medical Research Council (MRC UK),
the Unit formally joined LSHTM on 1st February 2018. The exciting new
partnership will boost research capacity into current and emerging health
issues in Africa and throughout the world. The Unit is based at the UVRI
Entebbe campus with established outposts in Kalungu, Masaka, Wakiso and Kampala
Districts.
Job Summary: The Administrative Officer will mainly contribute
to the MENISCUS trial under the supervision of the Study Coordinator. The
position will be responsible for administrative tasks associated with the
trial, including liaising with schools in Wakiso and Kalungu districts,
arranging internal and external meetings and taking minutes, and organizing and
managing filing systems of all project document.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:

Provide administrative support for trial-related
activities to the Study Co-ordinator and team leads;
·
Maintain and manage the Trial Master File and
related documents;
·
Co-ordinate trial procurement (with the Study
Co-ordinator);
·
Organise internal project meetings, circulating the
agenda, taking minutes and circulating information and action points as
relevant to the team;
·
Process and maintain administrative and Human Resource documents and filing system for
the trial;/
·
Draft, send and follow up on selected correspondence
with stakeholders, ensuring quality assurance of all outgoing correspondence;
·
Assist in the preparation for trial monitoring
activities;
·
Assist
in the presentation and promotion of the trial to all stakeholders;
·
Assist in the protocol development and ethics review
process;
·
Assist with the organisation of workshop and
dissemination meetings with national and international stakeholders;
·
Assist in building and managing relationships in the
project; and,
·
Other duties as requested by the Study Co-ordinator.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
·
The
ideal candidate must hold a BA/BSc in a relevant discipline;
·
Post-graduate diploma in project planning, project
management or similar discipline
·
At least
three years’ experience as project administrator/administrative officer for epidemiological studies in Uganda;
·
One year
of experience
as project administrator for a randomized trial is desired
·
Good Clinical Practice certification is an added;
·
Excellent computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft
Office (e.g. Word, Excel).
