Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) Uganda is part of an International
Development, training, and research institution that was established back in
1960 empowering rural communities and organizations to end extreme poverty and
hunger.

 

About the Project:

IIRR is implementing
a project on Integrated Natural Resources Management and Sustainable Land
Management practices using Agro-Pastoral Field School and watershed management
approaches in Karamoja between September 2020-February 2022. The project aims
to increase production through climate-resilient production techniques, and
also support efforts to diversify production to increase income and reduce
vulnerability to food insecurity. A strong emphasis is on rehabilitating
degraded ecosystems and ecosystem services through the restoration of degraded
landscapes, agro-forestry, Climate Smart Agricultural practices, natural
regeneration, and sound pasture management. The project puts target specific
activities towards women and youth, who are among the most vulnerable, to ensure
equality of participation and remove underlying vulnerabilities in Karamoja

 

Job Summary:  During project implementation, the Project
Officer Agro-pastoral Farmer Field Schools/Integrated Watershed Management is
expected to apply the concepts of integrated Natural Resources Management
(INRM) and Sustainable Land Management (SLM) to build community capacities to
sustainably manage land and water resources, and promote a more productive
landscape in the target districts through Farmer Field Schools/ Agro-pastoral
Farmer Schools and Watershed Management approaches

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
You will
implement project activities and provide technical support to project
implementation issues for the project, provide leadership to the APFS team,
align with IIRR program quality principles and standards, donor guidelines, and
IIRR’s best practices to advance the delivery of high-quality programming to
the poor and vulnerable. Your knowledge and support will contribute to the
effective, adaptive, and innovative implementation of the project.

·       
Support
the Project Manager to plan, coordinate, implement, supervise, monitor, and
evaluate all project activities in line with the approved project documents and
signed cooperation agreement

·       
Mobilize
and train the APFS facilitators in project-related programs

·       
Conduct
watershed activities in the two districts

·       
Coordinate
and supervise all APFS facilitators to ensure efficient and effective delivery
of the project

·       
Prepare
weekly, monthly biannually, and annually work plans and budgets in consultation
with the Project Manager to ensure appropriate utilization of project resources

·       
Prepare
and submit quality and timely reports as required from time to time by Project
Manager

·       
Support
in developing project M&E system and report on the progress and quality of
completed and on-going project activities

·       
Work
closely with PM to visit beneficiaries in project sites to determine and verify
project implementation against project standards and donor requirements

·       
Support
the organization efforts in resource mobilization and any other assignments

·       
Represent
IIRR in forums, workshops, meeting, and other related assignments

·       
Document
lessons learned, good practices, and success stories

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural
Resources Management, Agriculture, Development Studies or a related field

·       
At least
three years of relevant work experience ideally with an international NGO

·       
Knowledge
of technical principles and concepts in integrated natural resources management
(INRM), Sustainable Land Management practices, and watershed approach

·       
Proficient
in MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), GIS, Web Conferencing
Applications and good report writing skills

·       
Understand,
respect, and practice the organization’s shared vision, mission, and values,
including mutual respect, equity, and justice; honesty, and transparency

·       
Ability
to communicate clearly and demonstration of good interpersonal skills with
strong training skills, meeting & facilitation; coaching skills are
essential for capacity building of project staff and beneficiaries

·       
High-level
integrity and initiative-taking and positive attitude towards learning and
sharing.

·       
Good
computer knowledge in the area of MS word, MS Excel, Powerpoint & e-mail.

·       
Working
knowledge of budget management

·       
Valid
riding license and ability to ride a motorcycle

·       
Ability
to establish strong relationships with the local leaders, community, and
government representatives will be vital

·       
Strong
analytical skills with focus on detail

·       
Ability
to work effectively under stressful conditions

·       
Good
technical writing skills

·       
Presentation,
facilitation, training, mentoring, and coaching skills

·       
Proactive,
resourceful and results-oriented

·       
Ability
to speak the local language is an added advantage
