About UNRA:

The Uganda National
Roads Authority (UNRA) was established by the National Authority Act, No. 15 of
2006. UNRA became operational on 1st July 2008. The mandate of UNRA is to
develop and maintain the national roads network, advise Government on general
roads policy and contribute to addressing of transport concerns.

 

Job Summary:  The Materials Engineer will be responsible for
quality assurance of soils and materials testing; reviewing tests results and
proposing necessary amendments to the design and construction works.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Conduct
independent soils and materials investigations in line with departmental
standards and guidelines;

·       
Carry
out reviews of contractors and consultants’ quality assurance procedures and
methodologies in line with departmental standards;

·       
Carry
out inspection and independent compliance checks on designs in line with
departmental standards;

·       
Carry
out reviews of soils and materials data and test results in line with
departmental standards;

·       
Conduct
Independent compliance inspections of construction works in line with
departmental standards;

·       
Respond
to audit reports in line with departmental guidelines and standards;

·       
Develop
a risk matrix and put in place risk mitigation measures in the materials
quality management;

·       
Participate
in Planning, budgeting and reporting in line with departmental guidelines and
targets.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
applicant for the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) Materials Engineer job
must hold an Honors Degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, Soil
Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering or any other related field;

·       
Post
Graduate qualifications in a related field is an added advantage;

·       
Professional
registration with the ERB or relevant Association of professional engineers in
the commonwealth countries is an added advantage;

·       
A
minimum of three years’ experience in Soils and Materials investigations and
tests.

·       
Computer
literacy is a must.

·       
High
level of integrity;

·       
Proven
track record of outstanding performance;

·       
Excellent
interpersonal, particularly staff/management relations;

·       
Excellent
oral and written communication skills.
