DFCU Limited was started by the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) of
the United Kingdom and the Government of Uganda through the Uganda Development
Corporation (UDC) under the name of Development Finance Company of Uganda
Limited. Later restructuring brought in DEG (of Germany) and International
Finance Corporation (IFC) as equal partners with CDC and UDC, each having a 25%
stake in the company. Its objective was to support long-term development
projects whose financing needs and risk did not appeal to the then existing
financial commercial lending institutions.

 

Job Summary:  The Head Reconciliation and Support is charged
with contributing to operational efficiency by driving quality service within
the COO domain, embedding the Operational Risk framework across units’ operations
as designed by the second level of defence, and building motivated and high
performing teams through the effective leadership and line management to
reconciliation and registry teams.

 

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:

·       
Managing
the Reconciliation Unit and the operations support units including the
Registry/Archives.

·       
Oversee
reconciliation of all the accounts under operations such as Nostro, Vostro,
sundry and suspense accounts in a timely manner.

·       
Oversee
reconciliation of physical assets of the Bank such as collateral, cash and
equipment within IT to ensure it is done correctly and in a timely manner.

·       
Rolling
out the Operational Risk framework within the units under the COO domain.

·       
Be the
custodian of the MIS for all the units within operations.

·       
Coming
up with KPIs and KRIs and monitor them across the units of operations.

·       
In
liaison with Compliance and Central MIS, provide oversight on data quality and
its governance.

·       
Set
performance and development targets for staff, monitor, and give timely
feedback.

·       
Manage
and develop staff as well as foster a team approach by actively building strong
working relationships both within the department and in dfcu.

·       
Supporting
the COO with the centralization and the digitization agenda.

·       
Drive
cost save initiatives.

·       
Come up
with clear work plans on the management of documents within the registry.

·       
Be the
custodian of all the departments process flows, procedures, policies, and
departmental operating instructions within the COO domain.

·       
Manage
capital and operational expenditure in line with the budget for the unit.

·       
Training
all the units in the department on the Operational Risk framework and drive the
ever audit ready agenda.

·       
Be the
central point of contact for all the audits within the department.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
applicant for the DFCU Bank Head Reconciliation and Support job must hold a Bachelor’s
Degree.

·       
Eight
years’ experience in a financial institution, three of which should be at
management level.

·       
Previous
work experiences in Account reconciliation, Finance, Audit, Operations in a
financial institution preferred.

·       
Strong
analytical skills.

·       
Detail
oriented.

·       
Strong
communication skills.

·       
Experience
in a control, process, or reconciliation environment.

·       
An
in-depth understanding of the business and control processes of the bank.

·       
Strong
problem-solving skills.

·       
Ability
to work with multiple teams with diverse skills.
