Job Summary:  The Sign Language Interpreter will contribute
to strengthen and sharpen UNFPA’s focus on the sexual and reproductive health
and rights and GBV needs of women and young people living with disabilities.
Under the overall supervision of the UNFPA Representative, the Interpreter will
report directly to the Programme Specialist, Gender and Human Rights.

 

Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 

·       
Provide
verbal translation services to the SRHR/GBV and Disability Associate to enable
her  in communicating with staff and
partners including in meetings.

·       
Facilitating
communication of UNFPA’s guidelines for providing Rights-Based and
Gender-Responsive Services to Address Gender-Based Violence and Sexual and
Reproductive Health and Rights among women and young people with disabilities.

·       
Provide
translation/interpretation services for UNFPA and Implementing partners and
when required submit translation in word processed documents.

·       
Work
with the Disability Associate in the field and share field reports of
translation/interpretation activities with UNFPA.

·       
Identify
field translation requirements of programme beneficiaries and make necessary
recommendations.

·       
Facilitate
UNFPA engagement in implementation of national advocacy initiatives on SRHR/GBV
and disability by helping to translate key SRHR messages into sign language

·       
Participate
in disability inclusion coordination mechanisms by providing interpretation
services to facilitate communication with people with hearing disabilities.

·       
Support
integration of disability in the Live Your Dream Campaigns by providing
translation services during the Dialogues.

·       
Provide
sign language trainings for staff and beneficiaries

·       
Perform
any other related duties that may be assigned.

 

Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 

·       
The
ideal candidate for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Sign Language
Interpreter job placement should have completed Secondary Level Education.
Diploma in any humanities plus a Diploma or Certificate in Sign Language
interpretation from Recognized Institution is desirable.

·       
A
minimum of two years of working experience providing sign Language interpretation
services.

·       
Experience
in the field of inclusion / accessibility of services / services to persons
with disabilities

·       
Languages:
Fluency in oral and written
English essential. Knowledge of local languages is an asset
