About US:

The mission of the
Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is to “Strengthen Health Systems in Africa
with strong emphasis on Infectious Diseases through Research and Capacity
Development”. IDI has six operational areas through which it works to achieve
its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment, Training, Research, Laboratory
services (including the CAP-certified IDI Core Lab & Translational Lab),
Global Health Security and Health System Strengthening Programmes.

With funding from  Centres for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC)/PEPFAR, and in partnership with MoH and respective District Local
Governments, IDI is implementing comprehensive HIV/AIDS services in the West
Nile region of Uganda under the project “Accelerating and Sustaining HIV
Epidemic Control and Related Diseases in West-Nile Region of Uganda under the
President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), 2020-2025”. The project
supports the 12 districts of; Arua, Maracha, Madi-Okollo, Terego, Koboko,
Yumbe, Moyo, Obongi, Adjumani, Pakwach, Nebbi and Zombo.

 

Job Summary: The
SMC Clinical Officer will be responsible for conducting Safe Male circumcision
surgery in accordance with MoH Standards, documentation of all surgical
procedures and management and reporting of all Adverse events at the site.

 

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  

·       
Ensure
eligibility for VMMC and conduct safe medical circumcision surgery for targeted
clients at the supported facilities in West Nile.

·       
Oversee
proper documentation (completeness, accuracy) of all surgical and postoperative
follow-up procedures in assigned sites.

·       
Ensure
that circumcisions are carried out in accordance with agreed policies (MoH,
WHO, PEPFAR) and existing SOPs.

·       
Work
with the team to ensure the set VMMC targets are met in accordance with
institutional, MoH and funder guidelines.

·       
Implement
VMMC CQI, routine site team mentorship, Adverse event management at the site.

·       
Participate
in community demand creation and mobilization activities in the supported
districts

·       
Support
site teams in adverse event follow up and coordinate referral for above site
management as required.

 

Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:

·       
The
applicant must hold a Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Community Heath

·       
Up to
date registration with the Allied Health Professionals’ Council

·       
At least
two years’ post-qualification professional experience

·       
Formal
training, certification and experience in the clinical aspects of SMC service
delivery is necessary
