About US:

The Petroleum
Authority of Uganda (PAU) is a statutory body established under Section 9 of
the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production Act 2013, and in line
with the National Oil and Gas Policy for Uganda which was approved in 2008. The
PAU’s mandate is to monitor and regulate the exploration, development and
production, together with the refining, gas conversion, transportation and
storage of petroleum in Uganda. This includes ensuring that petroleum
operations in Uganda are carried out in accordance with the relevant laws,
regulations, guidelines, statutes and in line with international best practice
for the petroleum industry.

 

Job Summary:  The Network Administrator will report to the
Senior Infrastructure Officer and plan the future growth and expansion of our
computer network with the PAU and will be responsible for maintaining the PAU’s
current network infrastructure. He/she will be responsible for designing,
organizing, modifying, installing, and supporting a company’s computer systems.
Designs and installs LANs, WANs, Internet and intranet systems, and network
segments. Maintains computing environment by identifying network requirements;
installing upgrades; monitoring network performance.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Establishes network specifications by conferring with
users; analyzing workflow, access, information, and security requirements;
designing router administration, including interface configuration and routing
protocols.

·       
Establishes network by evaluating network performance
issues including availability, utilization, throughput, goodput, and latency;
planning and executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing
of equipment; defining network policies and procedures; establishing
connections and firewalls.

·       
Maintains network performance by performing network
monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network
problems; escalating problems to vendor.

·       
Secures network by developing network access, monitoring,
control, and evaluation; maintaining documentation.

·       
Prepares users by designing and conducting training
programs; providing references and support.

·       
Upgrades network by conferring with vendors; developing,
testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements.

·       
Meets financial requirements by submitting information for
budgets; monitoring expenses.

·       
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational
opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal
networks; participating in professional organizations.

·       
Protects organization’s value by keeping information
confidential

·       
Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for
accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value
to job accomplishments.

·       
Participate in planning and budgeting for Network
equipment and assembly costs

·       
Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to
time. 

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
applicant for the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) Network
Administrator
job placement must hold a BSc Computer
Science, BSc IT, BSc Computer Engineering, BSc Telecom Engineering.

·       
MSc. Computer Science, MSc Computer Engineering, MSc
Information and Network Security, MSc Cyber Security, MSc Telecom Engineering
or a related discipline is desired

·       
Possession of CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, ITIL, MCSA or a related
Certification is desired

·       
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with Linux
and Windows systems and network monitoring tools.

·       
Strong knowledge of networking, including TCP/IP, VLANS,
Ethernet, VOIP, SONET, switching, routing and routing protocols (BGP/OSPF),
802.1Q, and DNS.

·       
Strong technical aptitude and ability to research and
solve complex issues independently.

·       
Willingness and ability to learn new skills and apply them
as needed.

·       
Ability to effectively communicate issues and resolutions to
all levels of the organization.

·       
Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive and
internal information.

·       
Possess excellent project management skills.

·       
Good communication and interpersonal skills.

·       
Ability to conduct research into enterprise networking
issues and products as required.

·       
Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to
detail.

·       
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

·       
Ability to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure
environment.

·       
Strong customer service orientation
