Job Summary:  The Humanitarian and Emergency Affairs
Specialist will lead the design and development of Country Office humanitarian
response strategic approach focused on refugee-hosting areas.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Remain alert and responsive to any child
safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you
to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding
policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the
Child Safeguarding Policy

·       
Externally engage with key stakeholders in the
humanitarian and emergency response sector (Government, donors, partners
including the private sector, ChildFund Alliance members so as to profile
ChildFund’s work and identify key opportunities for collaboration, development
and delivery of humanitarian programs

·       
Identify humanitarian funding opportunities
consistent with ChildFund priorities, capacities and mandate

·       
Lead in proposal development processes for the
humanitarian and emergency opportunities

·       
Document and profile ChildFund’s humanitarian
work

·       
Ensure adherence to internationally recognized
standards for Accountability to Affected Populations, and Profile/ highlight
the concerns of the participants and ensure resolution as part of the humanitarian
accountability process

·       
Ensure compliance with the agency’s child
safeguarding policies and procedures within the humanitarian portfolio.

·       
Conduct rapid situational assessments to inform
humanitarian program design and response to any emerging disasters and
emergencies.

·       
Build capacity of staff and partners in
humanitarian and emergency response

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree or
equivalent in relevant area required. Advanced degree in humanitarian affairs
or related subject is an added advantage.

·       
A minimum of seven years of experience in
results-based humanitarian emergency strategy design and implementation

·       
At least 5 years’ experience in working on
programmes in humanitarian and emergency contexts preferably with an
international development and humanitarian organization.

·       
In-depth understanding of in country
humanitarian context including the East African regional profile

·       
Proven excellent communication, networking,
presentation, public-speaking and interpersonal skills.

·       
Strong initiative, able to work with limited
direct supervision.

·       
Collaborative working style, ideally with
experience working in a matrixed structure with colleagues from different
organizational units.
