About US:

The Petroleum
Authority of Uganda (PAU) is a statutory body established under Section 9 of
the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production Act 2013, and in line
with the National Oil and Gas Policy for Uganda which was approved in 2008. The
PAU’s mandate is to monitor and regulate the exploration, development and
production, together with the refining, gas conversion, transportation and storage
of petroleum in Uganda. This includes ensuring that petroleum operations in
Uganda are carried out in accordance with the relevant laws, regulations,
guidelines, statutes and in line with international best practice for the
petroleum industry.

 

Job Summary:  The Database Administrator will be responsible
to and report to the Senior Database Administrator and will be responsible for
supporting and maintaining the performance of the PAU database systems and
applications to ensure business continuity.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Ensure availability and good performance of databases and
application serve instances

·       
Support system resource utilization, table space and
automated database routines and provide backup of the all the major enterprise
databases

·       
Participate in routine security check to ensure
confidentiality, consistency and access to data by the authorised persons

·       
Implement data quality processes to effectively implement
data security requirements

·       
Provide technical support to application development teams

·       
Support disaster recovery and the data warehouse to
enhance business continuity, planning and decision making 

·       
Identify system anomalies and provide technical support to
permanently resolve reported queries to deter them from re-occurring

·       
Train different stakeholders on usage of the database
system

·       
monitor the documentation, follow-up and feedback on
queries raised by the users of various PAU systems

·       
Participate in the development of business process to
enhance automation of business processes and system integrations

·       
Implement standards to ensure that all application design
and code is produced with proper integrity, security and performance

·       
Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to
time.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
applicant for the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) Database
Administrator
job placement must hold an honors
bachelor’s degree in either, Computer Science, Information Technology,
Statistics with computing, Computer or Software Engineering from an
internationally recognized University or institution.

·       
At least three (3) years’ experience working with big
database management from a reputable organization.

·       
Experience and knowledge in migrating code, database
changes, data and menus through the various stages of the development life
cycle.

·       
A good knowledge of physical database design.

·       
Excellent knowledge of Oracle backup and recovery
scenarios.

·       
A good knowledge of Oracle security management.

·       
Masters’ Degree in Computer Science, Information
Technology, Statistics (Computing option), Software or Computer Engineering or
related field from an internationally recognized University or Institution is
desired

·       
Possess excellent project management skills.

·       
Good communication and interpersonal skills.

·       
Ability to conduct research into enterprise networking
issues and products as required.

·       
Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to
detail.

·       
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

·       
Ability to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure
environment.

·       
Strong customer service orientation.
