About US:

The Agency for
Cooperation in Research and Development-Uganda (ACORD-U), with funding from the
BMZ/The Johanniter is supporting selected groups of People with Specific Needs
(PSN) in five (5) villages in Kyangwali Refugee Settlement and the host
communities under the project: “Increased resilience and income support for
vulnerable refugees and persons in local communities in Kyangwali Refugee
Settlement”-Kikuube District.

The Agency for
Cooperation in Research and Development-Uganda (ACORD-U) wishes to invite a
suitably qualified and experienced individual to apply for the position below.
He/she will provide psychosocial counseling and support services, to the target
PWD, PLHIV, Children at Risk and the Elderly among the refugees and hosts in
Kyangwali Refugee settlement. 

Job Summary: The
Psychologist Officer is responsible for providing psychosocial counseling and
support services, providing professional and confidential services to target
PWD, PLHIV, Children at Risk and the Elderly peoples’ households with various
challenges, establish case follow ups through conducting home visits to
referred families, Plan and implement the delivery of counseling services in a
non-discriminatory manner in line with ACORD/UNHCR guidelines and supervise the
activities of Peer Counsellors.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Providing
professional and confidential services to target PSN in the target villages and
host community

·       
Plan and
execute PSN and refugee awareness raising in target villages and host community
with Peer Counsellors, change agents and the Refugee Welfare Committee members
basing on case trend and ongoing needs of women and girls with special needs

·       
Establish
case follow ups through conducting home visits to referred families so that
client are fully supported with Psychosocial Support and Counseling

·       
Strength
and maintain community network with community leaders and Peer Counsellors

·       
Plan and
implement the delivery of counseling services to the target PSN households in a
non-discriminatory manner in line with UNHCR and ACORD guidelines

·       
Conducting
peer to peer group counseling sessions

·       
Participate
in Case Management Coordination meetings with the UNHCR and other partners to
discuss on the cases being handled by the peer counsellors and the team

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
applicant should preferably hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work,
Counseling, Psychology or other related field.

·       
At least
two years of relevant professional experience

·       
Strong
experience working with vulnerable people including PWD, PLHIV, Children at
Risk and the elderly

·       
Strong
knowledge of PSN supportive techniques including communicating with PSN

·       
Familiarity
with guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Humanitarian
settings.

·       
Strong
organizational and supervisory skills with excellent reporting & writing
skills.

·       
Strong
interpersonal skill and communication skills.

·       
An
excellent command of verbal and written English.

·       
Good
knowledge of Microsoft word and excel.
