About US:

The Private
Education Development Network (PEDN) is a Ugandan non–profit organization
incorporated in the year 2004 to promote and integrate entrepreneurial
programs, active teaching and learning in the formal and informal Education
system in Uganda. PEDN stand out as a key contributor to
micro-entrepreneurship, finance and business development in the region. It
works through a multi-sectoral approach, a public- private partnership (PPP)
framework in which it’s working with government structures, financial
institutions, schools and other civil society organizations to provide holistic
programming, coordination and implementation of programs and activities.

Job Summary: The
Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring smooth operations in
the finance department. Key duties and responsibilities which include support
in the preparation of management accounts, donor financial reports and ensuring
compliance with the statutory requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Responsible
for all transactions resulting from payments and receipts are properly recorded
in the books of accounts and comply with established principles, corporate
standards and procedures.

·       
Accountable
for effective financial management, timely reporting and cash flow management.

·       
Managing
the reconciliation of all advance ledger accounts, payroll, payables ledger,
receivables ledger, cash and banks.

·       
Participates
in development of the overall organization budget, in line with business
objectives and monitoring of performance.

·       
Make
daily entries in QuickBooks accounting System and PEDN MIS, ensuring accurate
GLs and budget codes are included.

·       
Responsible
for proper maintenance of the fixed asset register.

·       
Supervision
of account Assistants staff including task allocations.

·       
Support
in the implementation effective internal control systems

·       
Support
the Finance and Administration Director in the preparation of monthly
management accounts, statutory financial statements and other financial reports
as may be required by the management.

·       
Support
organisations accounting, implementation and maintenance of sound financial
policies, procedures, documents and systems to sustain the organization.

·       
Responsible
for statutory filings and compliance are done within the stipulated deadlines

·       
Ensure
compliance to National, organisation / donor regulations and that financial
controls, policies and procedures are applied in all financial transactions.

·       
Keenly
review expenditures and supporting documents relating to all accounting
transactions for accuracy and consistency with organisation / donor
regulations.

·       
Ensure
proper management of organisation funds including office cash and disbursement
of funds as per the organization and donor regulations.

·       
Conduct cash
counts every end of month.

·       
Support
with field audits where necessary of project team and accountability of funds
and resources received from the head office for the field
operations/activities.

·       
Review
all payment requests and prepare all requisitions based on available budgets
and resources.

·       
Follow-up
on finance recommendations from the Finance and Administration Director and
ensure timely response to all finance concerns.

·       
Assist
in preparation, coordination, and monitoring of the project budgets

·       
Carry
out any other duties as may be assigned to you from time to time by your
immediate supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The applicant
must be a person of high integrity possessing a University Degree in Finance
and Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration, Economics and other business
related courses with CPA or ACCA level 2

·       
At least
three years’ experience in a similar role in an NGO environment.

Analytical

Excellent
communication skills – written and verbal.

·       
Self-motivated
and result orientated.

·       
Ability
to use initiative and to multi-task.

·       
Ability
to train, organise and coordinate.
