Job Summary:  The Engineer will design, develop and
construct a huge range of projects of the physically and naturally built
environment from conception through to completion. He or she will support
implementation of FCA construction works in Kyaka Field office.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Routine
Supervision of Construction sites/works in accordance with the specifications
and drawings

·       
Write
weekly, bi-weekly and monthly systematic progress/ status reports on the
various construction projects being implemented.

·       
Organising
Joint monitoring Visits to the Construction sites with key stakeholders like
OPM, UNHCR, District officials,etc

·       
Conducting
monthly construction management meetings with the Contractors and with all the
stakeholders

·       
Guide
contractors on technical issues, make recommendations, issue instructions in
line with the specifications and B.O.Q s and be able to enforce the
implementation of your recommendations and instructions.

Ensure
use of quality materials, reject any substandard materials and ensure excellent
workmanship on sites.

·       
Follow
up on building services such as (water, electricity wirings, gas) are of high
quality and in accordance with standard code of practice respectively.

·       
Monitor
and ensure that every constructed facility is safe, accessible and all
inclusive as per government guidelines

·       
Follow
up and ensure that Contractors use the S.O.P on sites as per the M.O.H
guidelines to curb the spread of COVID-19 and other diseases.

·       
Make
sure the Physical planning committee of Kyegegwa D.L.G approves drawings and
B.O.Q s before construction starts.

·       
Preparation
of drawings and B.O.Q s as may be required by management or as may be directed
by the Engineer Coordinator.

·       
Conduct
on site investigations and analyse data (maps, reports, tests, drawings and
other)

·       
Carry
out technical and feasibility studies and draw up blueprints that satisfy
technical specifications

·       
Assess
potential risks, materials and costs during construction processes

·       
Provide
advice and resolve creatively any emerging problems/deficiencies

·       
Oversee
and mentor staff and liaise with a variety of stakeholders necessary for
construction work


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
applicant for the Finn Church Aid (FCA) Engineer job opportunity should hold a
Degree in Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering

·       
At least
three years of proven working experience in civil engineering in an NGO will be
an added advantage

·       
Excellent
knowledge of design and visualizations software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D or
similar

·       
Excellent
knowledge on structural analysis and design of structures

·       
Proficiency
in site layout, grading, utility design, erosion control, regulatory approvals
etc

·       
Project
management and supervision skills

·       
Strong
communication and interpersonal skills

·       
License
of professional engineer

·       
Proven
commitment to accountability practices.

·       
Proven
ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work with limited supervision

·       
Excellent
knowledge on both software (word processor, spreadsheet, Linux servers, Windows
and hardware (network cards, memory upgrades.

·       
Good
management, communication, teamwork, capacity building and report writing

·       
Ability
to work independently when necessary, set realistic goals, and work within
agreed timelines
